I agree. I'm sure just about everything will work. Sadly, one of the only things that won't is the controller I use almost exclusively - the Nitro Deck. Well, it won't work in portable mode, if for no other reason than it'll be too large to fit into the Deck. Though I suppose it may be possible CRKD has a firmware update at some point allowed for the Nitro Deck controllers to be usable with Switch 2 in docked mode.

Have to admit, half of the reason I wanted the Switch 2 sooner rather than later is simply to be able to play all my existing Switch games on a bigger, nicer portable screen. I'm a somewhat older gamer, in my mid-40's, and having my eye sight decline in recent years, I really could use a bigger screen.
The launch library is probably going to be Nintendo's best ever, with the console kicked to June or July. I expect a large number of those big third party games will be ready by then. Even if it launched in March or April, they probably already had Mario Kart 9, Metroid Prime 4, and Breath of the Wild for Switch 2 ready to go. Pushed back a few more months, there might be a couple more first party titles. Though I suspect the next 3D Mario still won't be a launch title and that one comes out around October, around the time of year Mario Odyssey was released. I do think the trailer focusing solely on Mario Kart was no coincidence. Seems like Nintendo confirming MK9 is the big, previously unannounced AAA first party game for launch. |

At this point Prime 4 HAS to be a launch day title to make up for the logo reveal at the Switch launch.
You know what I would love to see at this point more than anything? An Ocarina of Time remake. It's one of the few Zelda titles I've yet to pay through (watched my brother on his N64 when it came out) and something I would absolutely gobble up. |

It's not that big of an upgrade over the regular switch in terms of current technology. It's been in production for a while with over >2 year old tech and doesn't even have an OLED screen. It'd be a joke over 400 bucks, and this is coming from a Switch 1 lover. 399.99 would be the highest I'd imagine they'd try for.

Also I'm happy they went this route, makes sense Switch 2 cartridges would be similar. As for it not being fully backwards compatible with all Switch 1 games, hopefully the 1% outliers are Labo or niche games no one plays. |

They don’t like to subsidize console costs like Sony/Microsoft do and look to make a profit on each unit Day 1. If they did that strategy then I’d agree $350 was in play. |

Switch 2 will probably also EOL the current $300 Switch and $350 Switch OLED, and maybe a small price drop on Switch Lite. |

I still don't understand why in 2025 OLED can't just be the default. OLED is old display tech now. It shouldn't cost significantly more than LCD/LED at this point and should be as ubiquitous as those other display techs. I feel like manufacturers are keeping the cost of OLED artificially inflated so they can keep selling it at a premium price.

By switch standards, yes. By gaming standards, no. Nintendo almost always comes out far behind the technology curve so they can charge less. Could it be 400, yeah. I doubt it though. And 450 would be crazy. Getting up there in PS5 prices for a technology far behind. Last edited by RevolverOcelScott; 01-16-2025 at 07:51 PM. |
