On-disc extras, yes, don't see a reason why Criterion would drop any of them. Their release was initially planned as part of the Janus Contemporaries line-up, but was upgraded to the Collection proper during the awards season. I would expect that the long delay/wait is at least partly due to them working on new and unique special features.

Two of those recently announced extras are on YouTube. The Blender conference has the guy umming and erring throughout and the BTS is Latvian with an English voiceover. Still I think they could be interesting (didn’t want to watch too much).

But it would be great if Criterion could produce a nice in-house documentary.

Maybe it was a rumor but I thought I read somewhere the Criterion edition would include a directors commentary track - time will tell

They did that, and way more. Curzon still has the nicest looking set, but Criterion absolutely wins in terms of extras with the commentary track, new interviews, and including a whole other film with Away (2019)

Wow yeah that's great they are offering 2 movies basically, Away doesn't look like anything special so I'm not sure if I should double dip.

So what version of Flow is everyone getting? Deciding between Criterion and the Italian version, personally.

Thank you!

I went with the Curzon when it went up at Atomic, what, a couple of months ago. I didn’t have any idea when Criterion would release it. Hopefully I made an okay decision.

Are Curzon titles usually English friendly (disc menus, subtitles, etc)? I like the fact that it has HDR, although I’ll leave it up the more knowledgeable here to see if that’s a huge deal with this particular film.

Wait, is Curzon not the Italian version people are referring to?

How many versions will there be?

Criterion
Curzon
Italian?

I might need to change my Atomic order if possible if the Curzon isn’t the Italian one!

Crap - thanks for the info!

Well, is the Curzon the worst of the releases?

Criterion seems to have the most extras + another short film.
The Italian has HDR.

Curzon has the most deluxe physical packaging.

Curzon is released a whole season before the Criterion and has Blender Conference and Masterclass and Q&A with Gints Zilbalodis and a booklet not present on the Criterion.

However the conference can be found online

I pre-ordered the UK Curzon edition a couple of months ago and am happily sticking with it. I always support the UK companies where I can (unless I read that it's a totally messed up release, which is unlikely, but in which case I'll re-consider).

I would always prefer Curzon 4K, Studio Canal 4K, and BFI 4K over Criterion 4K, even though they cost more and have region B BR's.

The other one had a ton of specials though and a 2nd movie. So I'm sticking with that I guess.

Got mine in earlier and three things:

1) Booklet does indeed confirm the encoding for both discs was done by VDMS.

2) Also includes a Stereo LPCM 2.0 audio track, in additional to the original DTS-HD MA 7.1 track.

3) As expected based on Curzon's LE 4K release of PARIS, TEXAS, very handsomely produced set!

No, you made the right call. The VDMS encode alone puts it above at least the Criterion. You can always hunt down the audio commentary down the line and AWAY, which is the director's first feature and very good BTW, is still on Prime. I do not trust either of Criterion's two most prominent encoders (likely NexSpec in this case) to get both films onto 4K and Blu-Ray discs without there being any sort of encoding issues.

As for the Italian 4K being HDR, if it is not a limited release, I imagine prices will drop over time, so you can always track that down later. The Curzon, however, is a Limited Edition.

Thanks for the additional info - feel better about my decision.

I actually received mine yesterday. The packaging is beautiful - lovely set! Just wish it had HDR. I assume it will still look wonderful! Haven’t popped it in yet to confirm. So many other discs I’m behind on

The director's preference is SDR. The Italian distributor just did their own HDR grade and got Zilbalodis' approval. Doesn't mean it was intended to be seen that way.
