I trust them more than some ass clown journalist.

If Warner says they didn't get pay and that it wasn't even a bidding war. Then take their words for it.

Paramount on the other hand admit it that they were paid, that's the BIG difference.

Whether Warner gets paid or not, I don't care. These lame journalist just want to spin the tide, even though Blu officially won. It has been winning way before Warner join, that's the sad part.

I agree completely.

There is a reason Paramount hasn't denied they were paid off, they admitted it. But Warner has denied it. Also a reason why no credible reporter speculates that Warner was bribed, only ass clown bloggers and bitter HD-DVD fanboys say it. Yet Rauters and any news site will bring up the Paramount bribe.

It's not like Sony and Warner can hide a payout like that both being publicly traded companies, they have to release financial reports to shareholders. So after March 31st we'll either see if true or not.

Besides, it's not like HD-DVD wasn't trying to buy Warner, but they didn't have the install base or sales to justify the move. Blu-Ray was winning in studio support and sales, it had to go that way.

Doubt its true but who really cares? Even if it was true what does it mean: its ok for Para to get paid but not Warner.

Either way It's Over !

It's $200M less than what I head rumored last month. LOL

In the end, it's all moot. It doesn't matter how it happened. Whatever the truth may be, it did me the favor of pushing me to go "neutral" a lot faster than I had anticipated (it was always in my plan, eventually) and it brought an end to that silly format "war". Whether they were paid or not is no longer relevant.

Why would you think that? Sony probably paid WB with the knowledge that this move WOULD end the war.

Again, it doesn't even matter anymore. Also, the money would have come from the BDA, not Sony.

All this bribe bull**** means that HD-DVD bribed the wrong company! When Paramount took a bribe nothing happened. When Warner took a bribe (allegedly) the format war ended.

Default Well..

The worse case senario is that Toshiba got beat at their own game. They bought Paramount's exclusivity and they tried to buy Warner's but got outbid. So long, fair thee well Toshiba and all of it's HD DVD supporters!

Here's the thing: When the Paramount news happened and the bribe concept made its rounds...this was confirmed even in mainstream news outlets and such beyond any doubt: Paramount took a bribe. That came out rather quickly.

I have yet to see the first article from a credible source cite any clear evidence that Warner took a bribe and payoff whatsoever.

This has become arguably THE favorite HD-DVD zealot bash point to try and make themselves feel better. They need to believe Warner was bribed and "Sony bought everyone off" because to believe the facts as they really are means they have to admit they were wrong.

Sony must have near godlike powers and infinite resources. Let's see, according to HD-DVD fans:

Sony bought off just about every major CE company into the BD fold, many of whom are arch rivals to Sony...they bought off just about every major hollywood studio...somehow they had money left over they bought off most of the major retailers here in the last month or so...and then there was gravy money to help pay off some of the media outlets.

^^
Some people really believe this stuff.

Mate, it ticks me off no end.

For Warner to have gone HDDVD would have been a bribe situation like para - doing something in the face of their own sales FACTS. Warner would have needed be paid to choose the format that they had the worst sales for (HDDVD).

OK, we have two formats here. We are selling 2 milllion of this format, and 1 million of this format. I want to choose one or the other:

- Choice A - Logical choice is to pick the one we have best sales stats for. No brainer

- Choice B - Illogical choice is to pick the one we have the worst sales stats for. We'd need financial incentive to cover our sales losses .

Warner went with Choice A. Paramount went with Choice B.

Simple as that...

seriously, who cares if Sony even did pay hundreds of millions?!?! BD won the war! Its over and Sony will eventually get all of that money back in royalties anyway. I dont consider it a payoff. Its more of an investment!

Some bitter hd-dud fanboy created bs. I seriously doubt that it is true. It does not matter at this point if Warner got paid or not. Blu Ray would have won anyway because of the hudge PS3 install base. I'm just glad Blu Ray won the war! Now we need to beat sd-dud!
