I have always loved action & war movies although i hated this movie for these reasons.

1 - the 300 are barely armored (bare chests) so they wouldn't of lasted 2 seconds
2 - there is only 2 main action scenes with still only around 40 enemy dieing in each scene..
3 - the constant slow motion during kills ruins the genre and makes it seem unreal
4 - the sky looks fake
5 - the enemy also looks make believe or similar to Quake 2 enemies
6 - the leader is ALWAYS SHOUTING when he speaks?
7 - the storytellings seem unreal and mythological.
8 - i don't believe the traitor was really a hunchback again unreal.
9 - the mandatory grain again not real to look at (resembles a dream).

anyway goes from a war genre to a fantasy/mythological film. why couldn't it been like Troy.

You do realize that 300 was never meant to be realistic or based on reality as we know it right? It's based off of Frank Miller's graphic novel, who is better known for Sin City. And we all know Sin City is more or less a live action comic book. 300 is meant to be taken in the same way. Yes, the story itself is based on historic fact, but this is a very loose interpretation that was based more on the comic adaptation than the history books. When you accept 300 as pure entertainment rather than a cluster of historical inaccuracies, it becomes much more enjoyable.

300 isn't my favorite movie by any stretch of the imagination (I don't even own it), but it deserves a little bit of defense here.

1. That's how they actually fought, though it would have been more accurate if they were nude.

2. Not really.

3. It's supposed to look unreal, it's supposed to be highly stylized. Similarly, Sin City wasn't supposed to look realistic.

4. Refer to #3.

5. Refer to #3.

6. Not really.

7. The goal of the movie was to tell the story how the Spartans might tell it it. It wasn't to produce a historically accurate representation. The mythological feel is the whole point, Hercules/Achilles/etc.

8. Refer to #3.

9. By this point I hoped you were being sarcastic, except you did nine points of completely missing the point.

At the time i heard everyone loved it, I had no idea that it was sort of a new genre - Fantasy based on a comic adaptation.

Besides that the end had alot of potential but like Braveheart they didn't include the final battle perhaps if they did i would of loved it . Based on the ending if they made another film would it again be a fantasy adaptation or a braveheart/troy style. My only annoyance is if only they brought out a true war style film of 300 (current day version) before the fantasy styled comic based film. I did buy the film on Blu-ray however i sold it on Ebay for the price i bought it for thanks to the shortage of it in Australia, so it came down to a free rental

2001: A Space Odyssey

I just didn't get the point of this movie. It was VERY slow moving and seemed plotless. I didn't even finish it as I fell asleep about 30-45 minutes into it. Maybe it was considered an artistic film masterpiece at its time, but I just didn't get it. Luckily I NetFlixed it. FYI - I'm in my 30's and the BD version was my first ever viewing of the movie.

yeah. at best, it seems like it would be cool to have on in the background of a party because it's such a trippy movie.

Spartans were no where near nude, they were perferct Greek Hoplites (heavy infantry, well trained), where the Persians were Light Infantry (Leather armor, Short Spears, and small shields).

A hoplite typically had a bronze breastplate (muscled armor), a bronze helmet with cheekplates, as well as greaves and other armour, plus a bowl-shaped shield called an aspis which measured roughly 1 meter in diameter. Hoplites' armour was around 50-60 pounds.

The primary weapon was a spear around 2.7 meters in length called a doru. Hoplites also carried a short sword called a xiphos. The short sword was a secondary weapon, after their spear broke.

I don't think it's just about the PQ...it's about the overall movie experience. But if you like watching bad movies with excellent PQ, then your answer would suffice.

umm historically they fought naked for three days. Spartans didn't use armor since the heavy weight would have exhausted them... instead they used shields and funneled the enemy into a narrow corridor so they didn't have to fight as many people at any given time...

with that being said to each his own. I myself thought troy was incredibly unrealistic and couldn't fall back on "it was a comic book" like 300 can.

That's why it was AWESOME!

Shooter is the most overrated Blu-Ray on this site. I do like it, but I would not pay the Premium people were asking for it.

I was just about to say. I mean who am I to tell the historians that they're wrong. If you look at the special features, it gives you good historical facts.
