The 805 is also THX certified, whereas the 605 is not.

I hope this link still works...

I also ordered a 805 and will be taking my 605 back. Mine will be in wednesday the 12th also. I have a few days before my 30 days are up at Circuit City to return it. I wanted to return before I bought the new one, but I don't think I could go without anything for awhile. Once the 805 gets here I will return the 605....

That's exactly what I'm going to do . I'm going to drop off my 605 at circuit city on my way to work tomorrow, and swing by fedex on the way home. My only problem is deciding which movie I should try out first. Any suggestions? I want something to show off the power of the 805 .

I used the Pirates of the Caribbean scene near the end to show it off. Great sound and a very cool scene too!

**SPOILERS FOR POTC 1**

The scene where the pirates are walking underwater to the enemy ship.

I have an SR805 as well. Got it from Amazon Wharehouse deals -- it was an open box for $543 shipped. I think it may have been a price mistake.

I got it -- the box was beat up -- but the unit and remote were flawless.

Great receiver -- great sound -- highly recommended.

WOw its that good huh?
I've narrowed my decision to this ONE receiver
(pioneer was too much for the 94' and Denon 2808 had not enough HDMI)

I'm left to choose Onkyo which has a really solid look build and now all I hear all day is how good it sounds.
I have to wait a month or more til i can afford it

They pack those suckers really well eh? I couldn't believe all the styrofoam/plastic/packing. Very nice touch Onkyo.

They do pack them really well. The box is very tight around it too. It was funny watching the UPS man try to pick it up the first time, I don't think he was expecting it to be nearly as heavy as it is!

Does anyone know if the Reon HQV chip in the 875 is worth upgrading to? (if only concerned about HDMI sources) or is it only an improvement on analog sources?

The HDMI is a repeater only. I believe that the RQV processing chip is only applied to analog sources.

I have a question. I'm planing to upgrade my receiver to an Onkyo 705 from a Home Theater Set. Do I have to upgrade the speakers too or can I use the same one? Thank you for your help.

If you have "standard" 6-8 ohm speakers, no problem, But depending on your room size, speakers may be next !!

Default Big Differences 605 & 805

BOTH THE 605 AND 805 (ALSO THE 705) HAVE THE SAME Faroudja DCDi SCALER UPTO 720p.

This is a very large mistake many buyers of the 805 have made. I ended up buying the 875 as it will do 1080p upscaling.

FROM THE USER MANUAL 805/875

805
3 HDMI
inputs, 1 output (Version 1.3a)
• HDMI up-conversion of composite video, S-Video,
and component video sources (720p capable)

875
HDMI up-conversion of composite video, S-Video,
and component sources (720p, 1080i, 1080p capable)

The only major differences going from the 605-805

1. the power output 130 watts RMS for the 805
Power output for the 605 is 90 watts RMS

2 The 605 CANNOT DO FRONT SPEAKER BRIDGING 805 CAN

3 Video scaler in the 605 is the Faroudja DCDi (720P capable)
Video scaler in the 805 is the EXACT SAME
THE 875/905 HAVE THE REON-VX hqv scaler that is 1080p capable

4. THE 605 IS NOT THX CERTIFIED
THE 705 IS THX SELECT
THE 805 IS THX ULTRA 2 CERTIFIED

5 605 IS HIGH CURRENT OUTPUT @ 36amps
805 is 60 amps

6. 805 has Dual PUSH-PULL amplifier Design

7 805 has Certified 4ohms performance
605 doesn't

8 HDMI inputs 2/605 and 3/805

9 DSP Type / QTY 32bit 605-1, 805-3

10 805 has BURR-BROWN DAC'S

11 605 has 5 band Multi-Band Speaker EQ
805 has 7 band

12 AUTO MIC SPEAKER CALIBRATION
605 (Audyssey 2EQ)
805 (Audyssey MultEQ XT)

Anyways there are some few very very minor difference's between the 2 models .

These ones I have listed are the MAJOR and NOT SO MAJOR differences between the 2, If I have missed any please feel free to quote and add them.

AGAIN THE 805 AND ALL LOWER MODELS WILL NOT DO 1080P UPSCALING!! I MYSELF WAS GOING TO BUY THE 805 UNTIL I READ THE SMALL PRINT IN THE SPECIFICATIONS FROM ONKYO'S WEBSITE THAT ARE NOTED BY ASTERICS.

THIS WILL HELP OUT WITH USER REVIEWS/OPINIONS ON THE 805

Actually that's what I did. I currently live in an apartment and in the process of moving soon(don't have an date yet). If you read my signature I have all of the speakers, just haven't hooked them up yet(except 1 of the subs and that's turned down).

I orginally had an HTIB Panasonic SC-HT40. When I bought the 605 I wanted to hear a few things, so I hooked it up and I could not believe how well the cheap speakers sounded.

I am only using the center, surround, left and right I can't use the subwoofer(not powered) that came with it.

Checked my tracking number and it's been changed to Thursday but everytime I wanted to check some sounds or show someone the difference in the decoding

1. Casino Royale(bluray) the first or second chapter, the chase: I use that to show PCM(UNCOMPRESSED).. I go back and forth with the audio stream. I'm not sure if I am more amazed how the PCM sound or how will the cheap speakers sound.

2. SpiderMan3 (bluray) when peter gets snatched off of the scooter, the sound is wonderiful. I watch that until he gets knocked out.

3. Transformers(HD-Addon) chapter 20??: When they are downtown and fighting, the bass from the guns loooooovvvveeee it and when starscream leaps into the air and transform(the build up noise as he is doing it, is jaw dropping sound to me)

The room is not too big but how can I tell if my speakers are 6-8 ohms?
