I say the nod goes to Eastwood but everything Gibson is part of is usually really really good...in front or behind the camera.

Default Not a big fan!

I'm not a big fan of Eastwood. I think his movies are descent but overrated, hence LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA and MILLION DOLLAR BABY. However Mel Gibson is one of the best. He has BRAVEHEART which is in almost everyone's top 100 of all time and PASSION was great flimmaking and APOCALYPTO was pure entertainment. I have to include Tim Roth for his film THE WAR ZONE, check this out if you like disturbing drama, it is my sleeper hit of that year. Plus I have to mention Billy Bob Thornton for SLING BLADE! Also noteworthy would be Edward Norton, KEEPING THE FAITH not so good but look for MOTHERLESS BROOKLYN this year sometime.

Clint is a great director, BUT as far as personal enjoyment goes, it's Ron Howard all the way. Who doesn't LOVE Arrested Development?

I voted Clint Eastwood because of his mutiple nominations and a couple of wins, I think, but you could easily make the case for Mel Gibson (directing a movie in a totally foreign language), and definitely Ron Howard (Then again he got lucky and directed Russell Crowe).

Ya, but that's like calling Stan Lee an actor because he appears in all the Marvel films. Cameos don't really "count" as acting, especially since most of Hitchcock's appearances were without dialog, I believe. He could've been a prop!

From the list above I would agree to: Eastwood, Stallone, Howard and Gibson. Who is not on the list, and only has directed two movies (Antwone Fisher & The Great Debaters). Forest Whitaker only directed one movie that I know of (Waiting to Exhale), but he is good too!!
