Default Best Actor turned Director

I was just curious everyone's opinion of actors that eventually directed a movie. I don't want to include directors that also act, like Tarantino and Woody Allen, just directors that started out as actors.

I'll just say Ben Affleck, even though he couldn't really act in the first place

Besides the obvious Clint Eastwood vote, I have to go with Peter Berg (The Rundown, Friday Night Lights, The Kingdom and hopefully many more to come)

Don't forget Unforgiven. Still one of the best westerns ever made. I think you gotta go with Clint.

Patrick Swayze!

Just kidding... his days as a director are numbered.

(Oh... too soon?)

Clint Eastwood!

Definitely Clint Eastwood.. don't forget he did Mystic River too.

I think Ben Affleck deserves a mention too, Gone Baby Gone was fantastic and one of my favorite movies of the last couple years.

I picked Clint Eastwood , but I would also like to mention Charles Laughton. If you are only going to direct one movie it would be nice to make it as good as Night of the Hunter.
How about Orson Welles? Writing , directing , and starring in one of the greatest films of all time before your thirtieth birthday is pretty impressive.

Alfred Hitchcock. Never had any major roles, but did a ton of cameos.

Well Stallone did start writing 4 years after he started acting. The Lords or Flatbush. Then of course the Rocky and Rambo movies.

I would say Clint Eastwood. However, I must say that Jon Favreau is quite good as a director and seems to be getting better.

Iron Man, that is one movie I'm really looking forward to.
