The Blu Ray section at all the best buys in milwaukee are almost empty. They can't keep them stocked because they are flying off the shelves. However the HD-DVD section is COMPLETELY full. My wife said, wow look at the selection that HD-DVD has compared to blu ray. Isn't that bad. i said no honey. Blu Ray has the same number of titles, its just that they can't keep them in stock. Nobody is buying HDDVD.

Also for those that do not already know. Blockbuster video will start to carry BLU RAY in stores end of january early febuary. There are NO PLANS to carry HDDVD at all.

I think Blu ray has pretty much won. The fast HDDVD dies out the better imo.

What's the assessment of sales at your store? My local BB has key titles gobbled up fast. But, I can understand why they'd want to keeps things to the two 8fts (same at mine) at this point.

I went to get Pearl Harbor last Thur. and there were eight copies, but a huge lineup at the cash. So I went in on Friday morning to find only two copies left. So, six determined souls braved the insane holiday lineup to buy a copy in an evening.

Default My observations. . .

Lately I have been taking a quick weekly survey of the retail outlets to see how well Blu-ray is selling.

Best Buy: They have the biggest selection of titles. Blu-ray looks like it is getting more activity than HD-DVD. Some of the hottest titles are completely sold out, other titles they have 10 copies of (Little Man?). I think they need to re-evaluate their buying of titles. Their prices are very high. I don't buy too many there.

Target: The Blu-ray section looks like it was ransacked. Not much left. Some excellent prices (Underworld Evolution @ $19.99). The HD-DVD section doesn't look like it's getting much activity and there are mutliple copies of several titles. Target does not get new titles in frequently unless they are high volume ones like WTC.

Circuit City: They have one disorganized kiosk of Blu-ray titles in the TV section. It has more titles than Target, and their prices are a little higher but better than Best Buy. I've run into other customers buying BD movies. They are carrying HD-DVD titles in their games (?) section and it looks like no one has ever visited it.

Wal-mart: This is one of my least favorite places to shop - huge trashy parking lot, big crowds and the store always looks dirty. I'm always afraid that someone there is going to scrape my car. But they are excellent for buying BD movies. Their prices are usually $20 to $25 for the new releases (Fox $30). The Blu-ray and HD-DVD sections are very small. Both were incredibly disorganized. The Blu-ray section looks like it has had more use. Several titles were completely sold out. I got the very last copy of Lady in the Water and Pearl Harbor (each $24.99). The cashier had to look in the back for more copies of The Descent because the rack was sold out. This is a good sign.

How do you know this about Blockbuster? I thought they where carrying both formats in certain stores. They do have PS3 games for rent in all BB's so I hope they do go BD exclusively. If true this is another nail in the HD DVD coffin.

Same here!

Fry's Electronics: Blu-ray section was run through. I couldn't find a copy of The Descent or The Transporter 2. There were empty spaces in the Blu-ray section! I was very happy 'til I remembered I would have to pay the much higher Best Buy prices for a copy.

Best Buy: Blu-ray section was trashed as well. There was one copy of The Descent left and 4 copies of The Transporter 2. I picked up my copies and ran! Upon check out the lady asked me if the picture quality was that much better than standard DVD. I said, "You bet your sweet bottom it is! And, the audio quality will blow you away!"

So that answers my question, I asked a blockbuster rep last night if they had blu-ray and she said they didn't. Looks like im going to have to wait.

Hollywood video on the other hand had blu-ray. Blockbuster made me diappointed.
