Lionsgate generally has worst blu-ray transfers I ever seen.
WB do average transfer jobs just because they have to compromise capability of HDDVD. Lionsgate on contrary. Do you ever see a dull, noisy, flat transfer which run @ 30+ Mbps? Go watch lionsgate catelog BDs. Terminator 2, which is the best one in the trilogy, has worst transfer. Even new date and day movies like war are so so, on par with WB's HDDVD quality.

(Good news is it looks like get improved, 3:10, Lord of War's transfers are above average and acceptable, although they still can't compared to Disney/Fox/Sony's releases.)

Hey this is a little bit wrong,Lionsgate have gorgoeus titles and you cant judge them by only Teminator 2 released at early stages of develpoment of Blu-Ray...we should prepare ourselves for a complete remaster title of terminator 2 very soon and who knows maybe it is under development now.

First Blood, Saw3 ,3:10 to Yuma ,War ,lord of War,the condemned, all are good and more than expected in PQ and SQ

As well as The Descent which is one of the better looking horror releases (even got 4.5/5 for PQ/SQ at HDD).

Or, House of 1000 Corpses which was rated 4.5/5 for PQ and 4/5 for SQ.

I have held off buying T2 waiting for a new version. Many Lionsgate Blu-rays do look very good though.

Therefore it is so obvious that Lionsgate will go format neutral before the summer.

Oh and...

Lionsgate expects downloads to grow a lot so it doesn't matter
(that actually got just posted here - I'd gladly smack that down now but I'm on a self-imposed exile from the site).
Well replications costs ate into all the revenues....

I agree. I holded off buying The Condemned because I figured it was a low budget second rate film. It was, but I was rather pleased with the pq. Every Lionsgate film that I have seen has been really enjoyable.

Yes The Condemned looks pretty good on Blu-ray IMO as well. The movie itself was so-so but nothing wrong with the PQ.

Don't know how it is across the pond, but in eastern canada, some of us heavy internet users are pondering with a world where Rogers/Yahoo, our cablemodem service provider is capping each plan from a monthly 25GB/60GB/95Gb depending on your monthly fee. Exceeding that cap means $2/GB --- which is insane. We should be rioting in the streets, but being canadians, we'd probably just smile and live with it.

Default My take on their transfers...

Out of all the Lionsgate titles I own.. I rate them something like this...

Impressive transfers...

3:10 to Yuma
The Condemned
Crank (WOW.. one of the best looking Blu-rays from any studio!!)
The Descent
House of 1000 Corpses

Belongs somewhere between impressive & not bad

The Devil's Rejects
Hostel: Part II (Sony/Lionsgate title)
Lord of War
War

Not impressive but not bad transfers...

Employee of the Month
Good Luck Chuck
Saw II
Saw III
Saw IV

Embarrassing transfers to Blu-ray...

American Psycho (NR, Dirt and print damage from a bad source)
The Punisher (Superbit quality at best)
Saw (Superbit quality at best)
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (Superbit quality at best)
Van Wilder :::PUKE::: Almost as bad as waiting... Heavy NR.. Terrible!
Waiting :::PUKE::: Worst Blu-ray I ever seen!! Heavy NR... Terrible!

Lionsgate has some of the best and worst ever on Blu-ray... so be careful

Lionsgate clears $15 per Blu-ray unit in clear margin for library titles and a whopping $21 for new titles like "War."
Wow. Just think how much Fox clears on catalog titles than.

Lionsgate has been inconsistent in the picture quality of their releases. Most of the catalog titles they've released so far have been marginal upgrades at best but the newer releases have picked up quite a bit. I suspect it's a question of their masters. It looks like they've been recycling old HD masters created for dvd.

Yeah, if you love video noise reduction with a touch of edge enhancement.

The skin tons look unnatural "plastic like" 95% of the time.

Night scenes show print damage. The black levels bounce up and down on a few scenes.. Plus you gotta love those dirt specks

The flim was done in 2000 but it appears it was made in the mid 1980's and no I'm not mixing it up with the films era either...

Unfortunately, I have very few reasons to be excited about Lions Gate, if any. In fact, they just put up the announcement for Caramel which is going to be released on DVD in the US in June but there isn't a single word about BR - all of this considering that there is an excellent French BR disc, region-free, which they could simply copy and add up English subs. If Lions Gate truly want to become "important" then they better start diversifying their output as thus far there is little one would purchase from them if blockbuster cinema isn't one's forte.

Ciao,

I don't see why we should riot in the streets.

Unless those are rioting are dirty downloaders who'd likely write "Cake and Tea or Death!" on their signs rather than anything of importance.

See: Monty Python & the Holy Grail and the backstory of the "help help I'm being repressed" scene.

That movie is just plain bad and doesn't deserve a transfer to high def.

and yet Meet the Spartans is coming out. We sometimes get the crappy end of the stick.
