-The BDA says it was "inevitable" and holds no grudge against LG for doing it.

-The combo player is a fully functional BD player, but severly handicaps HD-DVD features.

When an unwary consumer, takes their first plunge into High-Def pre-recorded media and gets their first look at HD-DVD and Blu-Ray on this machine, Blu-Ray is going to win hands-down everytime. People are going to ask "Why would I go with HD-DVD when Blu-Ray is so much better?" i.e. better menus, better features, etc.

If I were Toshiba, I'd be very concerned with this combo player. It's not going to paint HD-DVD in a very good light at all. By default, Blu-Ray will always win on this player (based on what we know about it today).

I think this speaks volumes about who LG thinks is going to win this format war. If they truly belived HD-DVD were the superior format, this would have been the other way around, i.e. fully functioning HD-DVD player with Blu-Ray tacked on.

Just a thought.
Ah, a plot worthy of the original Mission Impossible team.

Sadly my motto says "NO HDMI 1.3 MINIMUM, NO SALE"

Considering that this is a player above the USD$1K mark and is launching this year, HDMI 1.3 is already a given. Such dismal move from LG is also the one that "slightly" plagued Pioneer by launching a USD$1300 player with no HDMI 1.3 and no upgrade firmware for advanced audio codec support.

That's why the Panasonic became the victor over it.

Then I read the link, it said that it doesn't even support CDs. What the hell? Even if we all have DVD players that can play CDs, shouldn't it be a given for 2007 Hi-def movie player to at least play CDs?

Heck even USD$200 DVD players are already capable of CD-playback.

and the last would be about the bi-format support.

It does support ALL of Blu-ray's interactive features BUT DOES NOT offer complete support for those of HD-DVD (incl. iHD???) as the article states.

So if the HD-DVD fanboys (like the damned rdjam) think that this combo player would save them, there DEAD wrong!!!

Yep.

Supposedly, someone talked to a Rep at LG during CES and they said they will release another combo player later (6+ Months) that supports HDi but will cost over 500 more then the combo player now. LOL is all i can say!
