Consider that anytime you have an electronic device with a cooling issue due to a faulty fan, replacing the fan might not fix the problem. After numerous uses AFTER the fan went bad, you've probably cooked some of the components that relied on the fan to keep them cool, meaning they've heated up beyond their optimal temperature range. I've seen this a LOT in PC's.

Personally, I wouldn't waste time trying to fix it myself. I'd call Sony, pay the $150, and be free and clear.

And if it's $160 - $180 to fix, I might as well get a new one.
I would only get a new one(80gb) if you dont care about complete backwards compatability.... Otherwise it's worth it to get it fixed.

DO NOT try to vacuum any electronic device. You'll be producing static electricity like nothing else.

The best way to clean is while grounded to the device, don't use any compressed air or muck like that.. use Qtips/papertowels and if you must use a liquid, rubbing alcohol can help, however, be aware any moisture left on any components will spell disaster later.

I've used this method to restore computers that have been submerged in flood water and have had them come back to life and are still running 8 years later.

Yeah, I'd avoid this, too. Use cans of compressed air to clean them.

You do realize the Gunmetal version is going to be extremely limited quantities? And it'll probably be at LEAST $50-100 more expensive than a regular 80gb MGS4 bundle? (Assuming you can find one.)

Why not just go grab a used 40gb right now from eBay or GameStop? Beats waiting 2 months with no PS3 and Blu-ray.

For the $150.00 they actually send u a new or refurbished Ps3 I had to send mine in after the warrenty. It was also a 60gb and the blu-ray drive went out on mine. They said they stopped selling the 60gb but they still make them.

I agree with the no vacuuming but come one I suppose you would an average person to sneak into a clean room with a bunny suit to avoid the very HIGH static that you can produce. Why don't I hold onto my cold water pipe outside when I clean my ps3 with Q tips then to make sure I am grounded properly. You sound worse than the programmers I deal with. Why do they sell cans of compressed air to clean electronics then?

I believe the gunmetal grey is only in Japan. All pics of the US version are black. Japan gets all the different colors and would expect them to be the only one w/ this color

If the product is faulty, and has broken down due to 'ware n tear' shouldn't sony do something about it. In the UK if a product is faulty you should get a replacement for free, no matter how old it is.

When the browser freezes my PS3 (damn you tower.com!) and I have to turn it off by the touch-sensitive power button, I have to turn it back on the same way...THEN turn the controller on separately.

Sounds like you still have to send it into Sony.

Same problem here. Launch, 60 GB sku.

Bloody irritating. DVDs and CDs work fine. I am guessing the blue laser is spoilt.
