So, this would only help when listening to a Dolby Digital track? What about DTS or uncompressed LPCM?

Apparently, but it DOES work, and really well. I hadn't thought about it before, but I have mine turned on.

I had Black Sheep in yesterday (only a DD 5.1 track on it ) and had it bitstreaming over, and it was pretty muffled sounding. When I switched over to LPCM, it got substantially louder.

I think its been said though, that if dialogue is the issue, increase the db level on your center speaker and that should help quite a bit.

Also, no matter what size speakers you have, you should set them all to small and set your crossover to 80hz

later
That's VERY strange, because my amp's instruction manual says to never ever change the crossover frequency from 200 hz at all, not even when you have large speakers.

Whether small or large, to never ever change the crossover frequency from 200 hz.

to always leave it on 200 hz all the time, no mater what kind of speakers you have.

It will adjust down to what you say, 80 hz, but says to NEVER EVER do that.
