You're right, it doesn't do 1080p, but does do 1080i. Your tv has a native 720 resolution... If you want everything to show in 720, uncheck the 1080 options on the PS3 video menu....

ok...so every has told me my tv looks best at 720 anyway,so i set it to 720 and it worked...

now by using 720 instead of 1080,how bad am i missing out?

i played a game at 1080 that looked pretty amazing, and i can watch hd movies at 1080...i dont notice a difference tho...let me know, cause if worst comes to worst ill get a new tv eventually

You're not missing out on anything. Your TV is one of the rare few 720p TVs that has true 720p native resolution (1280x720).

You will get optimal results from leaving the settings on 720p for all sources, be it games or Blu-ray movies.

EDIT: Naturally with a display that can do 1080p resolution you can see even more, but for THAT particular TV, a 720p signal is a perfect 1:1 pixel map to your display, and will look better than a 1080i signal.

With a 55" screen, if you sit more than 7' away from the screen when watching movies, you can only see the detail provided by 720 anyway, so no loss would be evident...

If your PS3 is connected to the TV via HDMI then it would automatically puts the right format in. so in this case your PS3 will be set in a 1080i.

you aren't missing out much. you don't have a choice with a 720 TV. It is still high def. in some cases I have read that 720p =1080i is better than 1080p.
