With all the good that is sony and the ps3 IMO.. no complaints. I think they are doing a great job. I don't have issues with their audio choices. I would like HOME but I'd rather it be as glitch free as possible when they do release it.

Well basiclly I will take a different stand on this. I will not give in to a PS3, not in my rig, not on my watch. I will either buy a high-end transport (translate Denon or something on that line), or wait for a new crop of PC audio cards capable of carring HDMI HD audio (not the spdif trick that they're usin now). My receiver is capable of decoding the new codecs (I only use it as a pre/pro), so that kills me ever buying into the PS3 for BD. Even though the route I'm taking is more expensive than just buying a PS3 - I prefer it this way. At least I will be getting what i want, how I want it. No compromise.

Sad but true.
I'm at 7.4 (yes .4) I would like to see 7.1 material more.

Not mad at Sony at all, the PS3 is the perfect Blu-ray player - it decodes all audio and is 2.0. PCM or TrueHD doesn't matter to me, aslong as it's lossless, and Sony have offered that since day 1 on every title.....unlike some other studios. Their Blu-ray price structure is also one of the best of all the studios.

Not upset about Rescue Me since I don't watch it, but I can see how only having a season available on Blu-ray would disappoint people who do.

Not worried about the game delays, get it perfect and then release it. Was Killzone 2 ever actually given a confirmed release date though?

LoA? Again, get it done right, even that means pushing it back a bit.

So...are you saying you can actually hear a difference between TrueHD and LPCM? If not, and you want to waste valuable space for LPCM just because your eyes aren't perfect, I would suggest some empathy for us 20/20s. That or just grab yourself some good specs.

If your point is that you can't decode TrueHD then that may be a valid arguement, however don't expect the HD sound codecs to go away anytime soon. LPCM was useful at the begning when nobody had the kit for DTS-HDMA or TrueHD, but it's time is coming to an end.

I could care less about TV series, I also hear overall studios are concentrating on movies coming to video this year and series next year since the market is declining and the economy is bad, cause movies cost less than entire series do.
I would love to see Home on my PS3 this year, but I can live without it AND I want them to do it right, even if it means it has to be delayed till 2009.
I also would rather LoA be done right, and released later, than be done cheaply and released early.
Nothing to hate Sony about from my position.
+1 You said exactly what I was thinking on this one. Contrary to the original post, I think Sony has done a tremendous amount of things right actually. They've got a lot of irons in the fire, on multiple fronts, but they're executing their gameplan. Sure, there will always be delays when it comes to software - marketers get overzealous with dates and developers have to back it up - but I'd rather see a delay for a quality product than a rushed turd.

Also, uncompressed PCM, while sounding great, can take up an awful lot of space. If you also want to see more BD interactivity features or HD extras on discs, you better get used to seeing Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA instead of uncompressed PCM. At least by choosing Dolby TrueHD Sony picked the HD format that is most available amongst the current crop of BD players.

Now that Paramount and Universal are on board, I am not mad at any studio now.

To me PCM, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS MA are all the same. Any one of those makes me smile.

This is true. I'm at the point of going to bifocals and I'm already myopic (that's why use a 106 inch screen when I want to watch a movie and a 32 inch monitor for my computer ). You are correct that they are not going away and you're right - you people that are blessed with good eyesight deserve a little love . Just ventinig a little...now breath....AHHH
What I would really like to see (if the extra room will not be used for audio) is the part of the room used for a clean or family friendly track. That's just me again. I know that I will eventually be all HDMI compliant (come on creative or Auzntech or somebody... before my greed makes me buy that Denon)! I just hate to see the LPCM tracks go - I have listened to TrueHD and its sounds great but I do hear a difference but my view is skewed - I watch through a HTPC and the programs downres the TrueHD to 48/16 (instead of 48/24). So when I hear a LPCM track it just sounds better - not much, but definately noticeable - my system is very dynamic and estimated to produce over 118db, we're talking about the point of pain here.

I'm running 7.1 too myself, but how many of us are audiophile and videophiles?
Well just about all of us if we are on this forum, to some degree at least. But j6p will not have a 7.1 (or 7.4) set up. (I heard of a 7.2 but isn't .4 a bit overkill?)
Still, i would love to see more 7.1 features, but most people will not care about that since they will have 5.1 at the most.

I can see how some ppl want the uncompressed audio, but I am a videophile, not an audiophile. Although I love the HD audio, its the video I live for. And the video take up a lot more space and processing power so it should get all it can. Compression on audio is not as obvious as on video to most people.
By using TrueHD, they give you HD audio, so close to the original uncompressed that I am sure it could fool many die-hard audiophiles, plus they give us better video and more extras. The more they can put on he box, the more value people see in it (like extras and games and online content and HD video and HD audio etc...).

I am all behind Sony on this one, it is a great move to promote the format, even though it does present potential problems with compatibility with some set-ups. I am not telling you to go out and buy a PS3, but as the most popular BD player it has no problem decoding these formats. I am sure other players have the same ability, perhaps even better than what the PS3 does. It just means that to get the best HD audio and video, you need to get the best HD set-up of your choice.

uh huh? so your sounds system is able to get to the db level of a jet taking off? I would love to see that system so I could build one myself! Also, whats with all the hate towards Sony lately? Just two months ago everyone was praising them for what a good job there doing now everyone is knocking them and Disney. These two companys have clearly been the front runners of this "WAR" but now that it's all over all anybody is doing is kicking them in the jewels!

Angry? Hell, SONY, Panasonic and Disney ARE why I am able to watch Blu-ray.

Every time I visit a friend or family member and see their TV/DVD set up, I thank SONY.

Count your blessings....there are many.

Why hate on Sony?

I keep buying more Sony stock whenever it backs down to $40 and it routinely skips back up to $47 and beyond.

Go SNE!

Mad on Sony?

no.

Sony built my dream projector which I now own and use to watch my Blu Rays at 1080p.

Sony makes the PS3 which has to one of the best electronics devices ever made.

I love my Sony V6 headphones.

And who can forget the joys of the Walkman, the Trintron TV and Computer Monitors, Sxrd... and on and on.

The Sony stuff that I have,.. I love, and I'm thankfull for.

-Brian

Ditto. Any form of lossless is fine with me and now that we know the plans for all the major studios, I don't have any complaints.

Lets get one thing straight. Sony doesnt use TrueHD to save room for increased video quality. (their video quality is already tops anyways)

They use TrueHD so they can fit more dubbed sountracks in.

And yes I know most people dont have 7.1 setups. But bluray has the space and specs for 7.1 setups. I would much prefer the main track to be in 7.1 than have a bunch of pointless extras. Sony should be putting the effort in to show off ALL the bells and whistles of bluray.
