I thought I remembered that. But, I'm certainly no expert!

Same here. I know people bust on Ben Affleck, and I typically don't care for him either. But, I thought he did pretty well in The Sum of All Fears.

I must say that I like you WAY more here on bluray.com than I did on highdefdigest.com. Eventhough, I didnt dislike you on HDD. I see you've moved here because HDD is now a lair for disgruntled HD-DVD fans.

Seriously, do take a look at it and you will see several posters that are hell bent on blowing up every blurays doomsday article.

Kosty is now actually one of the good guys, believe it or not.
You are too magnanimous, Merrick. Thanks. BTW I didn't defect from HDD, I still participate there too lol And glad PG is coming 7/29.

It would be great if they had 7.1 audio.

Why? What discrete sound effects will be coming from those extra 2 channels to justify a 7.1 mix?

It's my favorite Jack Ryan movie. If you like movies like Clear and Present Danger, Hunt for Red October etc...give it a go. I just ordered mine for $6.99. Can't beat the price.

I swear, sometimes people just want 7.1 DTS-HD MA because it looks cool on the box/cover.

I concur...best of the Jack Ryan's.

If you haven't seen any of them, this is where I suggest you start.

Hunt For Red October is more about the "bad guys" than Jack Ryan...so it doesn't matter (as much) that Harrison Ford isn't in it

Well, if you like well acted spy-thrillers...you should do yourself a favor and watch Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger.

Dont expect Bourne-type movies.

Does anybody know if Paramount changed the artwork on this one like they did for The Hunt For Red October? I prefer the original 2008 artwork.

Oh, I think Hunt for Red October is far & away the best Jack Ryan movie, and it's the only one I own. And it's not about the "bad guys", it's about saving the good guys, the Russian defectors, and Sean Connery makes the movie. But yeah, it's the first novel/movie that introduces the Jack Ryan character, so it's not as much about him as the others.

Patriot Games was one of my favorites of the novels, but the movie tries to put in too much from the novel in too short a time and it feels choppy, especially toward the end. I only rented the blu-ray. But, for only $6.99, I'm going to have to pick up a copy & put it next to Red October.

And the Jack Ryan Collection with all 4 movies certainly stirs up memories of the format war - it was cursed on HD DVD. The first release was already shipped to stores and had to be pulled because the packaging called it a "Special Collector's Edition" with exclusive extra features, when in fact all 4 were the same bare bones releases as the Blu-ray and had almost no special features. Then after Paramount was bribed to go exclusively HD DVD, it was scheduled to be released again - same bare bones releases, but without the packaging claiming "Special Collector's Edition". And then that release was pulled when Toshiba threw in the towel. A few copies did make it into circulation and I occasionally see eBay listings for them wanting several hundred dollars for this "rare collector's item", and I just laugh. I wouldn't own the Collection because I hate The Sum of All Fears - one of the most intense of the novels, but far & away the worst of the movies. Clear and Present Danger the 2nd best of the movies IMHO, but the weakest blu-ray transfer.

Hoping Amazon will have The Hunt For Red October (with the original artwork from 2008) for 6.99 soon! PG and THFRO are my favorite out of the 4 Jack Ryan films from Paramount.

Watching the movie for the first time in awhile. I forgot how good it is and that Sam Jackson was in the movie.
