Iron man the movie will not be in your hands in 4-6 months and morel likely 1 year from now because it is a blockbuster hit in theatres now. The studios will not make this avaiable until they rack up sales at the theaters Pre-order is silly.

I preorder as soon as I can then if the price drops Amazon will drop the price of the blu in my order. That way I never miss a surprise price drop. That strategy has worked countless times for me. I can always change my mind and cancel later.

I can understand doing it for that reason, but I just can't see myself pre-ordering a movie when it's still in the theaters.

What's the downside of not preordering? Your CC doesn't get charged until shipped, so I don't see any.

I can almost guarantee you that we'll have it in our homes before the end of the year. No matter how well a movie does on the big screen, all the money is made in the first few weeks of release. Floppers will come out on home video sooner than later. There's a lot of money to be made in home video so there's no point for the studios to hold out. This only applies to new releases, of course.

Does this mean that there will be a pre-order link for Star Wars, LOTR, and Transformers???

Go out and buy a clue.

Average day-and-date release for home video is 3-6 months after theatrical premiere, if not sooner. For example:

Spiderwick Chronicles:
Theatrical release: 2/14/08
Home video release: 6/24/08 (~4 months)

Jumper:
Theatrical release: 2/14/08
Home video release: 6/10/08 (~3.5 months)

Cloverfield:
Theatrical release: 1/18/08
Home video release: 6/3/08 (~4.5 months, with a DVD that came earlier)

Juno:
Theatrical release (wide): 12/25/07
Home video release: 4/15/08 (~3.5 months)

How do you explain Transformers then? That was a hit in the theaters in July of last year and made it to home video in October. Iron Man and Transformers are distributed by the same studios too.
