Well, SPN gets about the same amount of total viewers each week that PD got in just the 18-49 demo, on average. That could have something to do with it, plus the previously mentioned fact that there were about twice as many episodes of Supernatural this year.

I have to watch this. It's from the co-creator of Wonderfalls, right?

This is a must, the whole show has a very Tim Burton-like feel to it, very cool series.

If you wait to buy TV seasons, all you do is up the possibility that the show will never be finished

It'll almost certainly be in a blu case. Amaray has a triple that's like the 2-disc with a hinged flap in the middle

SIGH, ain't that the truth! Plus, while studios often give you cool extras on the complete box set (particularly on "The Andy Griffith Show" box set), there are downsides. I've had multiple TV season box sets packaging tear up. Should I want to replace them, all I need do is wait until a sale becomes available, and replace that ONE set. If I had the complete series and the packaging tore up, I'd have to replace the COMPLETE SERIES.

Personally, I think all studios should reward people who purchased the season sets individually and do like WB did with "Friends" by sending the complete series box set... or like Universal did for those who purchased the first two "Jurrassic Park" filmes before the third one came out.

So you're saying it should be something like Buena Vista's "Lost" set with the Blu case inside the box?

I don't think this is out of left field at all, for several reasons. For one thing, it's a new series. Newer TV series that are in the public eye will likely sell better than older 'catalog' TV releases. This show is made to be in Hi-Def, with colors that will really pop. Plus, it's the first season, which is a great place to start for Blu-Ray.

You might notice that aside from a few rather popular exceptions like Smallville, The Sopranos, and Lost, almost no TV series that are still currently running, but already have several seasons on DVD from before Blu-Ray was around and/or popular enough to release TV season sets on, are releasing the newer seasons on Blu-Ray.

This is largely because many people probably don't want their seasons split between two or more formats, and probably wouldn't be willing to rebuy all of the previous releases on Blu-Ray. I'm still buying the newer Smallville sets on DVD for this very reason.

But newer series that just started within the past year or two are prime for Blu-Ray releases. Thankfully Heroes wasn't too far behind so they only have to rerelease the first season to catch up (that one I will rebuy since it's just the one season, and then get all future releases of it on Blu-Ray going forward).

I'm also glad that Chuck is being released on Blu-ray. Unfortunately in that case it's coming out almost 2 months after the DVD, but I can wait.

I stopped buying "Smallville" on DVD after season four. WHY, WHY, WHY would you continue buying the DVD sets? That makes ABSOLUTELY no sense whatsoever to me?

The post you quoted was from sometime ago. Since that time, "Supernatural" Season Three has been announced for Blu-ray (coming the same week as "Chuck") and was announced on the same day.

I thought the broadcast of this show looked excellent and the show isn't bad either. Don't think this is a buy for me but I will definitely rent it if I have the bandwidth just to see how good it looks on BD.

Also, both Pushing Daisies and Chuck were critically acclaimed series, so I think they know they'll have some power in the market. At the same time, the writers stirke gave both these shows SHORT first seasons. What better wya to test TV shows on DVD than using shows with 'less' material. If they dont sell well, these first 'half seasons' probably cost less to produce than other FULL seasons.

TrueHD is nice from Warner but why can't they do that for the release of all TV shows.

Trying to discern the thought patterns of WB is like trying to discern the thought patterns of a crazy and/or drunk person.

However, I'm hoping this is a sign of things to come for their OTHER TV on Blu-ray releases without confirmed "lossy" soundtracks.

Because I already have the bulk of the series on DVD and don't want the series split between two formats (a BIG pet peeve of mine). Because I don't know when (or if) they will release the previous seasons on Blu-Ray that are currently only on DVD. Because DVDs still work on Blu-Ray players, so it's not like my collection will suddenly become useless. And lastley because while I am buying the more recent seasons for reasons of being completist and being a general fan of the show, the series has really gone down hill in recent seasons IMO, and it's just not work the extra cost of the Blu-Ray set to me right now for this particular series.

Perhaps at some point they will release a whole-series boxed set (after the show ends, of course) on Blu-Ray after the format is more mainstream and for a decent price, at which point I will consider it. But for now, I'll stick with the DVD versions.

I understand it's a pet peeve, but it would just BUG THE CRAP OUT OF ME to know that I was paying money for a release that I could get in better quality (not that the Blu-ray releases are THAT far superior like other TV series) for just a little extra.

I purchased "Supernatural" S1 on DVD, but I held off on buying S2 so I wouldn't have to double-dip on Blu-ray, and am THRILLED to see S3 announced later this year for Blu-ray.

I'd be bothered by having a series split between formats, but it would bother me a WHOLE lot more to buy the DVD version...

To each their own I guess...

Well at least we know that it's not incompetence that keeps Warner from putting lossless tracks for their TV shows. I am very happy to see that Pushing Daisies is getting a lossless audio track. I hope it is the precursor for more TV shows from Warner getting lossless audio as well. I will hold out hope that Supernatural still might get a THD track.

So, uh... where's the TrueHD, Warner? It's actually *listed* on the back of the packaging as having TrueHD, yet nowhere to be found on the disc (pop-up menu has "English & French", doesn't even mention Dolby. They need to correct this in some way (either packaging wise or simply giving us discs with TrueHD) before they get some irrate customers.

Mine shipped out yesterday (I should get it Monday or Tuesday). "Torchwood" hasn't been listed as shipped yet though...

It's a shame that PD:S1 doesn't have "lossless" audio. I believe this is the first for WB... with the packaging SHOWING "lossless" audio, but none of the disc.
