Ha, I thought this was going to be another old thread being bumped.

I'm curious to see how much longer review sites will continue reviewing HD DVDs. Are they still being released in other parts of the world?

What does it matter? HDD keeps reviewing OLDER HD DVDs from other countries.

Asking if HD DVDs are still being released in other parts of the world I felt was relevant to a thread mentioning Warner going blu-ray exclusive today. While that may officially be the last one in the US, I was wondering what the situation is elsewhere in the world. It also relates to reviews (that I was curious about) since if they're still being released in other parts of the world, the chances are that they (HD DVDs) will be still be reviewed until those dry up as well. So, knowing if they're still being released in other parts of the world may help answer how much longer HD DVDs will continue to be reviewed.

I want to know how much longer they'll be reviewed because every time they do an HD DVD review, it's taking the place of what could have been another blu-ray review. So, instead of having to wait a week (or more) for reviews on some titles, maybe without HD DVD in the picture, they'll spend more time reviewing blu-rays. That should mean less waiting for those that use them for purchasing decisions or those that just like to read reviews before the titles are old news.

I did too, and understood exactly what you were asking. I'm just saying that even if HD DVDs stopped being released in other countries TODAY, it evidently won't matter until they work there way through EVERY single import...

Hate to rain on the parade, but I think that Warner has another two or three weeks left until they're no longer releasing HD DUDs. From what they said last spring, they would release any Blu-ray titles released until the end of May on HD three weeks later. So whatever new Blu-ray's they had as of today would be released on the format. But since I there hasn't been any major releases from them in the last few weeks, it's safe to say it's over. Speaking of HD DUDs, at work I had to organize that section the other day, and I had to spread it out fairly thin on the section we still have dedicated to it. Probably would only be a few more weeks till it suffers the fait of UMDs and takes up less than a row in Special Interest.

WB's last Blu-ray release was "V For Vendetta" on Blu-ray. This title has been on HD DVD since 2006.

The last Blu-ray releases before then was "P.S., I Love You" and "Twister" that was released three weeks ago on Blu-ray, and today on HD DVD. WB's next release is June 10 with "The Bucket List" which will be their first Blu-ray exclusive title.

Oh, gotcha and sorry. I thought you were implying it wasn't relevant so I went into a lot of detail trying to explain myself.

Depending on how much backlog Warner has on older encodes, we could be seeing HD DVD ported encodes for several months. I have no inside information but I hope Warner was planning ahead for this transition. They still haven't fully committed to lossless audio on all releases which is mind boggling to me.

here in wa state I still saw Hd-dvds at: walmark and hastings
not a lot but a few were still priced 29.99 and that's crazy IMO.

on the blu-ray side I have seen prices around 14.99 to 18.99 they are finale coming down to some web site prices.

Are you refering to existing HD DVD catalogue stocks? I suppose Warner will sell those to Amazon, but I doubt they will press more. In any event, If you were around for the January 4th announcement then you would know that Warner did indeed plan ahead for this!

'Twister' and 'PS...' are Warner's final HD DVD releases. There are no more HD DVD titles scheduled. There will be no more HD DVD titles scheduled

This is a very good thing.

This is a very good thing.

He was referring to the fact that SOME upcoming releases could have been encoded back when WB was still neutral.

We also have quite a few "catch-up" HD DVD ported titles to look forward too ("Batman Begins", "The Matrix" Trilogy, etc...)..., so it might be a while before we can COUNT on BD encodes on some titles.

~Alan<~~~~~~~~Who still wants to know if "The Bucket List" and other upcoming releases are BD optomized...

Ah, right. Gotcha. Thanks.

The very long delays in releasing BB & the Matrix trilogy on Blu-ray bodes well for a new video encode. Well, we can hope at least.

It's been stated they're ports...

Though "The Animatrix" won't be!

A nice little note from DVDBeaver's review of the Dirty Harry set:

Quote:
I would occasionally check the bitrates and it would be a quite high - in around 34-40bps.
http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDRe...rs_blu-ray.htm

It's going to be crazy to check the bitrate on a Warner title and see it above 30.
