Talking Warner goes BD exclusive today - no, really!

Technically, today is the day that Warner stops supporting HD DVD.

Yes, ironically, the studio that effectively caused the demise of HD DVD has stayed on longer than anybody else, be it CE maker, movie studio or computer software giant. As a result, the last couple months have been strange, because the format was obviously dead but, as long as a studio was still releasing material for it, you couldn't actually pronounce it dead.

But the day has finally arrived. Today is the release date for the final two HD DVD titles by the last major studio still releasing titles on the format (Twister and P.S. I Love You). Admittedly, in one final death twitch, three more titles will be released: Disco Pigs and the final two instalments of Bandai's Freedom. But Disco Pigs don't enter into it - HD DVD is a stiff.

HD DVD has disappeared from everywhere except Amazon. Glad to see the end of the format. Now it is time for some of its former fanboys to MOVE on!

Sadly, HD DVD still has equal support at my local Fry's (Burbank, CA). I can't imagine why, but whatever.

Similarly, there's still a few at Newbury comics, but only a 1/3 of how much Blu-ray shelf space there is.

My Fry's is still 3:2. They need to make a $5 clearance bin or just send it back already.

Ironically, I think Disco is set to be released on Blu-ray's 2 year anniversary

The sad thing is that when I was there on Saturday, there were still quite a few people browsing the hd dvd section. There were more people looking at blu-rays, but the fact the people are still looking at hd dvds is just sad.

Yeah,

And there are only 2 more titles coming to HD DUD. They don't come out till June 24th so there's still some waiting to do but the end is in sight.

HD DUD was just a mistake plain and simple. I think a lot of people got pulled in because it was (or seemed) cheaper.

Waiting for the 24th,.. just to know it's history and nothing more.

I was planning since yesterday on making this thread Grubert...

Though I'm aware that we'll still be getting some HD DVD ports from WB on their "catch-up" titles, and perhaps a few others that they've had done for a while but have yet to release, but does anyone know whether or not we'll see any TRUE Blu-ray releases from WB next month? "The Bucket List", "Fool's Gold", "10,000 B.C."?

Yesss.. but how long will they provide new copies of those HD DVDs?
As long as they are still making HD DVDs to sell, they are still supporting it. Seems strange they would release HD DVD titles this long, announce that they were going to stop making any after this months ago, but not make any more of the copies they just released... I mean, what kind of support would that be? I am sure they are still going to make copies for sale for a few more months, but who knows.
And who cares except for those HD DVD fans buying these up at discount. Blu-ray is the present and the future!

There is a certain symmetry that the first Warner DVD title released (Twister) is the last Warner HD DVD title released.

Now, begins the era of the slow decay of the DVD Forum, which will go kicking and screaming and parrotting Toshiba's anti-Blu line.

Interesting fact you have going there, kinda like the hd dvd swan song lol.

But my question is do you really think that the dvd people will go kicking and screaming or do you think they will be a little more accepting rather thant he hddvd gang.
