Cool! The Sony Store in downtown Toronto has a neat setup. It's a presentation table in front of a 70" SXRD. On the table is (left to right):

VAIO notebook.
BDPS1 player.
Playstation 3.

All are hooked up to the SXRD. And all are used to demo (right now, Ice Age II). Amazing.

How do you find the notebook? Any playback issues?

Talking Blu-ray vs. HD-DVD... Who will win... ???

All I can say is "WOW" in terms of the Sony VAIO VGNAR290G Notebook. I've had absolutely no playback issues with any of my BD-R movies, and the picture quality is impressive.

I'm sure there's other great displays out there, but this one caught me as soon as I saw it.

The real purpose of my Blu-ray (BD) Notebook purchase was for portability. I didn't feel like lugging around the PS3 wherever I go, just to show my friends.

I'm in the process of spreading the word, and my friends know it. It's all I talk about everyday.

http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/ser...9n100299n47540 is the link for the computer specs.

So far, it's been PURR'in like a kitten. I definitely hope Blu-ray comes out on top!!

Realistically, to be fair... if both formats started the same day it would be more interesting. We BD dudes (and dudettes) are playing a lot of catch up and the HD-DVD stuff has been kicking around for a year so most of the HD-DVD supporters have already done the bulk of the buying they wanted to do. We on the other hand, are starving for new titles and rightly so!

By the way... a tad off topic but I don't see the LG combo player as a problem. I know almost everyone here hates the idea of prolonging the war but I think we all wouldn't mind so much if the war suddenly started tipping in the HD-DVD's favour. If I didn't have the PS3, I'd buy the combo. I just want the titles I want in the format I have. Beyond that, I couldn't care if they had 60 formats!

Close to 100% actually. Nearly 2x HD DVD sales.

Or, HD DVD is only 50% (1/2) BD sales.

It looks like they took the pre-orders out of the equation perhaps. See that they are now separate.

So those preorder sales will have to be included at some point - presumably when titles ship?

Yep, seems pre-order titles have been removed and they're starting the year over from this month, so it looks like Friday's (when they ship preorders) on will be interesting, depending on when they tally sales. Also the Complete Info link is new I believe.

Definatly a few changes...i looked at the results today and my jaw nearly hit the floor, and then I noticed that they moved the leader to the right side on the Blu Ray and HD DVD alone sections. When I saw 37% I got really worried.

It's amusing now that they're removed preorders. With less titles available (granted, only 3), it's selling considerably more.

They've expanded the HD Wars section.
Quote:
Why are we doing this? We feel Sony and Toshiba having another format war is a joke. Studios and electronic companies should be able to agree and produce incredible content. Instead, they continue to fight over standards and copyright infringement. Hi-Definition anything is already confusing enough—now to further confuse the market, they added this ridiculous war. So, we created this page, based on our factual sales data, to mock the so-called "HD Wars,” because we will be happy when only one format is left standing.

So true, and I hope Blu-ray WINS! The #'s look promising already.

Heheh - looks like the 'missing sales' are kicking in already

It is weird though that the main page says for HD DVD:

Titles 163 Pre-Release 98 but if you go to 'Show All' it lists 161.

They also have 'Complete List' that says 194 titles.

Bluray:

Titles 159 Preorders 68 Show All 219.

'Complete List' is also 219.

BD doesn't add up either but it does seem to be somewhat closer...

Last edited by phloyd; 01-31-2007 at 04:50 PM. Reason: Added 'Complete List' for HD DVD.
