I've always hoped for a proper sequel to Phantasy Star, not that online crap. Also a sequel to what is my favorite RPG of all time, Skies of Arcadia.

whether the majority of people like rpgs or not, it gives the brand more street cred if you will. like why do car companies make super cars that one can buy? or why does a college's football team determine how good a school is?

At the time, the PS1 was a graphical powerhouse. It was doing things the previous generation could not. Same is with the PS3. We will start seeing more creative games when the install base gets higher. Just look at the Wii, it has way more crap games and way more creative games, one reason being because of the install user base (the other reason is the controls). There are just not enough PS3 users (and high production cost) for companies to want to take a risk on a game.

We will get our RPG's and JRPG's on the PS3. Just give it time. As more time passes and companies have time to develop games and the PS3 gets more users, we will see more RPG's like Oblivion, more action RPG's, more JRPG's, and more in general.

Hell I think it's sad that they did this to ALL of the franchises they release now. I would love to see more RPG's myself, but at the moment games like FPS's with online mutliplayer are at the forefront of gaming. It's sad that I can rent an FPS and beat it in a few days. I miss the days of 100 hours of gameplay, an involving story, and characters you cared about. Hopefully Square/Enix, Atlus, etc. will pick up the pace and keep putting out quality RPG's.

Ignore the fact that the PS3 is ahead of the 360 on the good games curve. Ignore that it's ahead of the PS2 on the good games curve. Ignore that it's ahead of the PS1 on the good games curve. Ignore that it's ahead of the Wii on the good games curve.

Ignore all of that, and your argument is still preposterous. Funny how this switches around, everyone said Blu-Ray would be the death of the PS3, and now it's suddenly the only reason the PS3 is alive.

I want a brand new Star Ocean series on the PS3!
I really enjoyed it on PS2 (Even though I got stuck and couldn't beat one part)

I'd like to play a Fantasy JRPG on the PS3 engine for sure.
Good thing about me is that it takes me so long to complete one that if only 1 or 2 were released a year I'd still have a difficult time getting to the next game before another was available. I purchased Oblivion when it was released for the heck of it. Haven't played but 1 hour or so. Will get to it later....

As of now I'm still enjoying Final Fantasy 10. I played it a couple hours today. Working on Metal Gear Solid 3 also. Will be picking up 4 this week.
My PS3 is almost nothing but a glorified PS2 right now as I hack through some of the old games I missed as I wait for the Final Fantasy 13 games to hit in the future.

I'm a huge RPG fan and there's nothing I'd like too see more than a good one hit the PS3, but crying to deaf ears won't accomplish that. Dev companies have their pipeline already laid out and aren't going to change that. Keep in mind the manpower and time it takes to build a quality game... the RPGs being demanded are already well in development.

To alter a company's business strategy on the whims of a bunch of internet signatures would be CEO suicide.

Well, I meant to the series proper, not just the first game. PS4 was my favorite of the series though. It seems that after 4, they let the series slide away.

I am pretty much dying for an RPG at this point. I've beaten all the PS2 games and I don't forsee Ar Tonelico 2 coming to the US. Persona 4 will though!~

How's Heavenly Sword? Is that RPG or action? I haven't tried it out yet.
A BIG +1. I bought the game for $20 because I NEEDED to buy a game for my PS3 (bought my PS3 with FFXII). The story is pretty decent but I haven't played that game in forever because of the battle system.

Go there, there are actually a ton of RPG's being released within the next year or two to hopefully help satisfy all of our cravings. None really starting until VERY late this year or early next year.

If you ask me, PS3 should invest in an MMORPG to compete with the PC.
I would really like seeing something like this on the PS3. I just recently started playing FFXI on the 360 because some friends have it, but an MMORPG that takes advantage of the PS3 hardware would be awesome!

Werd. You can pick it up a HUGE compilation of Genesis classic games, including PS2-4, for PS2 ($10) or PSP ($15) at Target.

This is branching out a little bit, but I wouldn't mind seeing more RTS or TBS games on PS3. I would DIE to see a proper remake to Master of Magic!

I said it's ahead of the curve. The PS2s lineup was very weak for a long long time.

The current PS3 lineup is way ahead of the 360s of a year ago as well.

I think developers are afraid of making good RPG's anymore... Seems the model for those is strictly in the MMO category now. I suspect many of the upcoming RPG's will be MMO's when they are announced.

Too bad really.

I always liked Neverwinter Nights because normies (us) could just host a server and play together and not have all the costs and hassles of a MMO.

The installed player base for the PS3 is just too small right now for any company to develop a Japanese styled RPG for it. It's apparent that traditional RPGs are moving toward the Nintendo DS with its lower development costs and huge installed base worldwide. RPGs are a very niche game genre outside of the heavyweight titles like Final Fantasy.
