The Harmony WILL control the PS3 once you have something like the Nyko remote's USB dongle. As stated, it cannot power the unit on/off or do anything that requires the PS button. The power isn't a big issue. Anyone who says otherwise is a douche. The only reason it would become one is if you weren't inserting a disc. Eh, get over it. For those waiting on a bluetooth remote that will work with the PS3, good ****ing luck with that.

What makes a Harmony nice? It's like someone volunteered to mow your yard in the heat all summer while you sit in the shade with a glass of lemonade. I was skeptical at first, but you press one button. It's just so much easier and convenient. I had semi-universal remotes, I know how to work 15000 remotes in 3 seconds. Surely I don't need a Harmony right? They're for grandmas and retards! No. Wrong. Spend 5 minutes with one that's properly configured, and you'll wonder what you were doing without one for so long.

While the 890 comes with an RF adapter, the ONE and 1000 are RF compatible, but it must be purchased separately. The 8/ONE/1000 series are all worth upgrading to over the 5/6 series. More functions, better buttons, better layout, better screen, better screen real estate, rechargeable battery, just do it already.

The Harmony can control anything that uses IR or IR by way of adapter. Including the PS3, XB360, Popcorn hour, HTPC, lights, air conditioning, projectors, projector screens, etc. If it's not in the Harmony database, all you need is the original remote. You can learn extra commands, macros, buttons that require a "shift" function like some receivers.

Lastly for those who just went through their configuration in 10 minutes, make sure to check stuff like remote settings for light control and smoother interface settings, slideshows for pictures, timing settings to improve response and reduce wait time for commands like turning devices on.

I think that answers everyone's questions. I've literally installed hundreds of these things for people. Not one was returned or required me to go back for more tweaking. More often than not, once people got these in their hands and used it for 30 seconds, they all said the same thing. "Best money I ever spent". No I don't work for Logitech, a man just has to have a product he can back. I'll be here all week for your concerns. Tip your waiters and waitresses!

The PS3 is controlled by bluetooth, and the Harmony remotes are IR (or RF), which are not compatable.

Is there something different with the 890 that I am not aware of?

I have a 670 controlling all of my equipment, and it does control my PS3 after I purchased the Blu-Wave remote (though will not power on/off the unit). I've been considering upgrading to the 890 for the better LCD screen and more logical button placement.
The 890 is RF if im not mistaken

Yes, it is, but the PS3 is bluetooth and will require some type of adapter to be able to use it.

For Gene:

RF=radio frequency (can control through barriers)
IR=infra red

Hey gang...I just bought the nyko blu wave and Harmony 550. Any tips on installing the thing? I'm guessing from what I've read that I hook up the blu wave to PS3 first, and once that is installed somehow program the harmony through setup to control bluwave?

Correct. When you set up the 550 through the computer, you will choose Blu-Wave as your piece of equipment (don't remember if it was under game console or something else). You can rename it to whatever you want after you set it up.

How does the Harmony 890 control the PS3? The PS3 is Bluetooth and the Harmony is not.

Default Full functionallity of Harmony 890 on PS3

I came across this web page a while ago, about a "dongle" made from the guts of a Sony PS3 bluetooth remote and some additional parts. (or just google IR4PS3)

http://www.remotecentral.com/article..._ir_remote.htm

Since this article the developer has moved onto revision 2. At this point it isn't available commercially but the inventor is selling them, or will sell you the parts necessary to convert your PS3 remote.

He has posted a video for doing the conversion with your own existing PS3 remote.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgfJAKEhZy4

There is also another very similar product out there called IR2BT. Their website is http://www.ir2bt.com. There are 4 videos on YouTube regarding this product. Go to http://www.youtube.com and search for IR2BT.

Overall, this is an ingenious solution, until Logitech makes a IR/RF/Bluetooth remote.

You have to plug in a IR receiver or equivalent(See IR2BT above) into the PS3.
