I typically connect my controllers to either the PS3 directly, through my Rock Band USB hub, or directly to the USB output of my DishHD DVR receiver. I prefer hooking them up to the DishHD DVR, so I can turn the PS3 off.

I don't really see the point of buying a specific charging stand when pretty much any powered USB port will work.

How long have you guys noticed that the typical play time for a contoller is before it needs recharged? I bought my PS3 just for a Blu-Ray player, and I never used the controller at all. Well after seeing everyone rave about MSG4, I bought the game and started playing. I charged up my controller by plugging it into a USB slot on the PS3, but it only appears that it lasts about an hour before I need to recharge it again. Could this be because I really never used it for about 6 months? Also, it does not appear that the controller charges when the PS3 is off. Is this true?

Hm, It should hold a few days.

I guess the normal sixaxis holds longer than the DS3.
but to be honest, haven´t noticed it at all. Both are great.

correct.

that´s why I prefer to charge it on PC/Mac.

I don´t want my PS3 to waste electricity.

While playing MGS4 (I charged ready for playing the game ) I got about 16 hours playtime and it's a very rumble-heavy game in large parts.

When my Sixaxis controller is fully charged it lasts for atleast 2 days worth of gaming without recharging.

So approx ~15hrs of solid gameplay for me

Hey, alot of you say you can charge your controllers through USB on computer and other sources. I dont seem to be able to. Do the red lights still flash when charging on PC?

Yes, at first, I was wondering too, because on the PS3 it´s just one blinking thing.

But on PC/MAC all 4s are blinking. And when it´s charged, It´ll stop blinking.

got it ?

I don´t know why that is, but it works.

Well thats why I asked. Because when I try to do it from anything other than the ps3, there are no lights at all, which makes me think that it is not charging...

Like a million people already said, hook it up to your computer. I have 2 dualshocks (thank you Buy.com w/ Google Checkout), so I just have one charging while I use the other.

ps - I recall the 3 current-gen controllers being rated for battery length and the PS3 was the lowest. Darn bluetooth =(
I've had the pelican stand for 8 months...it works perfect..... ..don't listen..sounds like this poster has hard feelings about 3rd party companies...

( i've had bad experiences with 3rd party companies, but none the less, this stand is awesome

Well there should be, all the lights will flash with anything other than the PS3, also the other device has to be turn on by the way. That might be your issue too that the device is not on. Also the lights dont start flashing right away, takes like 2 seconds.

Since I only have one controller now (X button broken on other one) I charge it using the PC.

doesn't matter if its conencted to the pc or not as long as it has it's own power source. If the hub you have doesn't have its own power source then it would need to be connected to a PC and even then the PC may not provide enough power to the hub to charge things.

In addition some of the USB ports on computers don;t provide enough power for charging either. If it's a port thats on the motherboard it most likely will work. If its a port on the front panel or top of the computer, then those ports may not provide enough power for charging. So if you have a non powered hub attached to a computer and it doesnt' charge your controller you may need to connect the hub to one of the USB ports on the back of the computer which is directyl connected on the motherboard. If your using a laptop, some of the usb ports on them things don;t provide enough power to recharge either.

you can also use regular wall plugs that have the mini usb connector on them. I can charge my controller using the car or wall charger that recharges my cell phone or GPS.

Have to agree. There is a lot of crap from Pelican and Madcatz .. but this particular item does not fall into that category. Very happy with it.

umm..

I charge both my controllers with PS3 when I watch a BD movie... usually 2 hours are enough to fully charge a remote. I was originally thinking of getting a stand, but decided its not worth it since I can charge it while watching a movie.

i have tons of those usb wires, since they are standard for all the external hard drives I have (2.5").
