They should have been 2, 1 hour shows. Discovery aired them a 1, 2 hour show. Took me 2 weeks to figure it out.

The problem with the show is that they have some great raw material to work with, but it was done in the typical discovery channel ADD fashion, glossing over things rather than getting down and dirty

From the Earth to the Moon IMO remains a far better record of events. Something like this needed to be about 12 hours long.

The BBC's Space Race was far superior IMO.

The 1st EVA is one of the most breathtaking, amazing things I have ever seen. The 1st earth rise was a close 2nd. Just really really cool stuff.

Not the eye candy that Planet Earth was. When We left Earth ,imo, is not about eye candy. It is about the human spirit, what is possible, and our quest for knowlege and to explore the unknown. The cool HD stuff is just a big bonus. Big fan of our space program and it's history

Watching the home movies shot before Columbia really made it hit home that much more.
Groovy...I can only imagine.

I remember my principal coming over the PA at my high school announcing that Challenger had exploded. I was in PE class at the time and the entire gym was silent. Seems like it was yesterday...

Well see that's what I kind of figured, however the next week after the 2 hours passed, there was another new one on. It's very confusing and I'll have to get this set to see what I missed/think I missed.

The series ended up being 3 Sundays at 2 hours each time. The first two days there was what seemed like an episode break. This last Sunday it seemed like one 2 hour episode.

I am hoping there is some good stuff in the extra 4 hours on the DVD/BD. I loved the interviews/commentary by the astronauts.

In the Shadow of the Moon aired Monday. Another great documentary with even more conversations/commentary by the men who lived it.

Holy thread resurrection Batman!

I received the first disc in the set from Discovery over the weekend. The first two episodes are awesome!

I won't buy the set from Discovery...Will rather buy from amazon.com. I just wanted to give a short review of the material.

Great PQ! Especially from the old NASA footage!

Thinking of picking this up on Friday when I get paid. Did anyone see it when it originally aired? Any yays/nays?

I didn't see it on TV when it aired, but I own the set and love it. If you have any interest in NASA's space program (especially the early years of it) this is well worth watching.

Spoke to another member and they said there were a few scenes that actually made them tear up.

I am a huge fan of the NASA space program (a good buddy of mine is one of the PR reps out of Alabama and hooked me up with a healthy and very generous supply of swag from the very last space shuttle mission).

this is a very under the radar release imo that I think a lot of people missed on.
It is a fantastic series, and really should have a higher profile as a bd documentary series. One of the best for sure.

This review I think addresses that.

The BBC's "Space Race" deserves to be released on Blu-ray!!! Even a DVD would be welcome -- it's an outstanding program centered on Von Braun in the US and Korolev in the USSR.

HBO's "From the Earth to the Moon" is simply excellent and also merits a Blu-ray remastering -- outstanding!

Default Brand New Copy with slipcover on Ebay!!

Whoooahhhh!! $199.99? This has been on my radar for a while now. Don't know if I would pull the trigger on this. Any comments? Don't want to post link, so I don't get accused of promoting an ebay listing, especially cause it's not mine. I'd love one with a slipcover, but I am fine with a previously viewed one. Crazy stuff. Item #161089690544 if interested.

Looks great, the case and discs all came looking nice.

This has been on my wishlist for the longest time and am so glad I finally ponied up and bought it.
