Thumbs up When We Left Earth

I've been watching this on the Discovery channel and I ordered the first disc in the Blu-ray set this morning. I'll post a review when it arrives.

Anyone else have this already?

Ray

Watched the whole series and loved it, although the last two episodes were a little hard to watch. I will be getting it on BD as soon as possible.

^^^ Probably emotional...The Challenger and Columbia disasters are featured in the last two hours.

I loved the series on Discovery HD...I hope the Blu-ray looks better.

I think I might have seen this, does this have a scene at the beginning where a guy shoots a guy in head and the back of his head explodes? I remember seeing that in a show about John Vaun Baun (sp?).

I'm definately going to pick this up when it is available as a whole set. I figure it will be about the same price as the Planet Earth series.

I spoke to Discovery's customer service this morning...Their price is $80 for the set...Same as Planet Earth. I'll wait for it to come down before I buy the set.

I basically bought the first disc to check out the PQ & AQ.

Most NASA stuff until very recently was shot 16mm or analog video

The detail is much higher than previous versions, but still limitedby the format. The 4 hours of extras will likely have some nice HD Space Porn

Last night I was watching the interviews with the Apollo astronauts. The PQ was stunning on that. But you're right, you can only get soo much PQ out of 45 year old film shot on that old film.

I, for one, wasn't unimpressed with the quality of the series at all. I thought it was pretty good - and I kinda liked the authentic/vintage look of the old film.

So this was supposed to have 2 episodes every Sunday night right? The first night, I swear they repeated the first episode twice. I even have it recorded.

My avatar may not make it real obvious who I work for, but I work at Johnson Space Center. (Yes, I took photo during the STS-123 launch at Kennedy) While I was young during Challenger, I did watch it happen live on TV. Now that I work here and have seen the reports, etc, it is still hard to watch. I have been working here for 8 years or so now, and was working during Columbia and the 2 1/2 years it took to get us flying again.

Watching the home movies shot before Columbia really made it hit home that much more.

If you had seen most of the footage as it had aired prior, you'd be very impressed by the quality. I was floored by how good a lot of the shots looked. The video of that first EVA was just absolutely breathtaking to me, especially when you consider what they had just accomplished.

I agree.....breathtaking. The entire series, really. I went out to East Texas to help pick up the debris. And yes, it does hit home.
