Although the show has greatly dropped in quality, I still enjoy Entourage, although it doesn't compare to The Wire.

Here's an exerpt from a story I saw on MSN today and agree completely:

“The Wire” might be the greatest drama in the history of TV. If the TV Academy shuts it out for the final time, I’m going to scream so loud that panes of glass will start shattering all around Los Angeles.

The Wire was the best show ever made, with The Shield being second. Sopranos was my favorite, but, slowly went down hill after Season 3 or 4.

It's a sign of how backwards the Emmys are that The Wire has only received one (maybe two) nominations in its entire history. It was for Writing, and of course, it didn't win.

This year the pressure is really on because the critics have been pointing out for ages how deserving the series is, how stupid the Academy is for ignoring it, etc. Plus, some of the old standbys are now out of the picture.

That being said, it is a real challenge for a show that is now over to win any major awards. Also, Season 5 of The Wire was probably its worst. It was still better than almost everything on TV this past year, but it still wasn't the show in top form. It'll be interesting to see the nominations on Thursday...

Really? We're all entitled to our opinions, but I feel like if you've seen 1-2 episodes of The Shield, you've seen them all. I bought seasons 1, 2 and 3 for $4.99 each, and put them all up on Half.com after watching most of season 1. I feel like if The Wire is a fine wine, The Shield is like a can of Natural Light, or something.

I mentioned this in The Shield thread (I believe), but The Shield really improves during Season 3, with Seasons 4 and 5 being two of the best seasons of any TV series, period. It really becomes something much deeper and richer than what it offered in the earlier episodes. I wouldn't give up on it too quickly.

But no, it's no The Wire.

No real surprise, no acting or best drama nomination for The Wire for this year's Emmy's. Sorry, but I don't believe James Spader had a better dramatic performance than Dominic West, or the Boston Legal is a better drama than The Wire (or Friday Night Lights). That's not an insult at Boston Legal, but I've watched it a couple times and it's clearly more of a comedy.

yeah, The Wire only picked up one nomination...for Writing (as i pretty much predicted)

doubtful it will win, since the lack of noms in other categories makes it clear that the Academy pretty much doesn't watch (or doesn't care for) the show

i think there's something called The Governor's Award that they can bestow upon a program or a person for special reasons, but again, i doubt they want anything to do with the series

the emmys is second only to the grammys in the major awards shows for lameness

I guess they didnt kill enough people this past season?????? While this past season wasnt as strong as previous seasons (minus the docks season) I will say it was still heads and shoulders above 99% if not all dramas out there.....

It a shame that this show is not going to be recognized and it will probably go down as one of the most under "recognized" shows. This along with Carnivale are 2 of my favorite all time HBO series, its sad that they got the "bump" .

As far as the Shield goes, its a different type of "cop drama" then The Wire is. I like both and would have to say that the last season of "The Shield" kept me wanting more and more after every episode. The shield definately took me longer to get hooked, but I am glad I stuck with it.
