Absolutely can, try to get either 12, 14 or 16 AWG speaker wire from Monoprice. They have the best prices around......

just wondering, i can see that the speakers have your regular speaker terminals,

but was wondering how it connects to the receiver,

the receivers back panel looks like this,

and im wondering if it has speaker terminals for connectivity,

if it DOES, then as fos mentioned, your good to go.

just found out, it needs special terminals,

does the back look like this?

if so, we'd have to reconsider our options.

the speaker terminals are found on the far left side, showing 'special' cables for connectivity, voiding us from using 'regular' speaker wires.

I have these connectors spare if you want some. I cut them off my sony speakers and attached the speakers to my sony a/v receiver.

Welcome to the downside of proprietary Home Theater in a Box.

Not sure how the connector works, but if they clip together, you may be able to pry them apart and replace the wire with upgrade wiring.

sorry fos, didnt mean to offend you.

in theory, its still a solid answer in my book.

regarding tearin it apart and stuff, id declin on doing so, never knowing which terminal is the proper one, possibility of a short et al, are a few disadvantages.

all in all, i bet is moot considering he's (the OP) has done his homework.

My friend, given the connection on the receiver (proprietery, non standard) I'm afraid that you are stuck with the speaker wire given to you by Sony. This is another example of why we all need to do such heavy research into things to see about the what if's. will it fit, are the cables & cords long enough, etc. best of luck with it, hopefully, you won't have to need longer speaker wires. If nothing else, lets hope it works right and sounds good, you can chalk the speaker wire length issue up to experience. keep us posted.

You always have the option of cutting the HTIB wire and splicing additional wire between the ends. It's not as clean but at least you will be able to extend the length to whatever you need.

I agree, he should leave about 6 - 8 inches from the connector end of the existing cable, cut it they add the length of say #14awg speaker wire splice it well with good wire connectors and that should be good enough. make sure you get good wire connectors. check with radio shack to see if they make something specially for splicing speaker wire. I don't know if something special is recommended for speaker wire over standard electrical connectors (wire nuts) which may work very well for your purposes.

good idea Mordir!

Soldering and electrical tape or heat shrink tubing (HST) would be best, IMO.
