Default Best Viewing Distance ?

I am about to buy a plasma or LCD and I was wondering what the best viewing distance for a 40 tv or bigger would be, I'm in a small apt an the couch seat is 5 and a half feet from the screen.

The other problem I have is Plasma vs LCD. I hate all of the pixelated and washy video that you normally see on an LCD. Would it be better to just go with a plasma to avoid that problem? My girlfriend has a 42 inch Panasonic Plamsa hooked up to only SD and the picture looks amazing!

Finally, I'm into style and these ugly black glossy cabinets just dont cut it for me. Is there anybody that makes a nice charcoal or grey Plasma or LCD?

This is what it might look like:

Well, your questions.

The chart should answer your first one.

If you are looking at above 40 inch get a plasma (i.e. Panasonic or Pioneer, or a NICE LCD (i.e. Samsung or Sony).

My Sony is charcoal, it is about a year and a half out. Gloss is the new thing, good luck finding something besides that.

As a general rule you should be seated 3 times the diaganol measurement of the screen.
I have a Samsung LCD with a white cabinet in the bedroom which looks quite nice

Default Viewing Distance l What Do Yo Like?

Hello

Why is this simple issue so complex to so many?

Viewing distance and size are whatever your personal choice is; nothing more or less.

Once distance preference is determined, simply decide what size and picture quality works for you.

Technology? Obviously, PLasma is going to give you the best picture quality.

Either the Panasonic 850 Series or the Pioneer Elite Kuro that are 1080p will satisfy if picture quality matters to you.

Thank You

If you were referring to me with that comment there was no need for that.
I know about Viewing distance, it was what Deciazulado said that i wanted to no more about, why is it that every topic always has a smart ass in it? people cant ask questions?
and as a side note... LCD or plasma with both give you stunning PQ.

I think the point is that some people can't resolve the extra resolution 1080P provides if they sit too far away. There really should be no problem sitting too close though. From far enough back dvd and BD can look virtually the same.

Dude - Deci gave you the best advice for sure and the people suggesting 6ft must be thinking of a 55" HDTV, not a 40" one.

As for the jibucha they are neither helpful nor informed.

I have found a nice little instructional video at What HiFi? Sound and Vision. Click on the video which is called "How to get the best from your TV".

As it happens they suggest sitting 2.79m from the TV for a 40-42 inch set.
