Some things it sounds a little better, but overall if you're looking to get blown away save your $400. I think most people in this field, myself included, tend to hear better sound to make themselves feel better about their purchase.

There isn't even that big a difference between SACD and regular CD but some people swear it's like night and day.
Baloney. This is pure FUD. All the new sound codecs are radically superior to the old and it is so sonically obvious that it is stunning.

I know you are entitled to your opinion, however, we're supposed to be helping the OP out, not confusing him. Please don't say such things. That makes it sound like we're here wasting people's money on something that doesn't make any difference.

Yeah I didn't think that would be popular around here. I'm just saying, I wasn't blown away. It wasn't like going from DVD to Bluray. It's probably going more from S-Video to Component video. Most people aren't going to be able to tell a difference without a back and forth side by side comparison.

I guarantee that any of my friends who aren't home theater enthusiasts like me would not be able to tell the difference. However, they can tell a difference between DVD and Bluray.

All I'm saying is I disagree that it's the groundbreaking experience some other posters make it out to be. That being said; do I have it? Yes. Am I glad? Yes. It's cool.

i concede this, but it still begs the question: why are there different codecs to begin with if they all sound the same? to create an artificial market?

Why would you disagree with other people's experiences? I've had tons of people come over and hear the difference and they all agree that HD audio formats are way better than lossy codecs. So are you disagreeing with that too?

I think uncompressed was going to be there in the first place to make things simpler. But then DTS and Dolby had to get a piece of the pie too, so they came up with their formats, which may be good for Blu-ray since people have heard of DD and DTS before from DVD's and theaters. That's what could've happened.

I should re-word that. You got me there. I didn't seem to experience such a difference as the other posters here have indicated they did; therefore in my experience it wasn't that big a deal.

Maybe I just don't have it turned up enough. Do you guys all crank it or something? I mean it does sound good but I just wasn't floored. Were you guys all floored SACD? I just put one in and it was nice but...

Maybe I should listen to a section of movie using the DD or DTS track and then watch it again with the lossless track. Anyone have any suggestions on which movie and track? I'm starting to think there's something wrong with my hearing.

Do you have good speakers, sub(s), cables, receiver? That can make a world of a difference. Do you have all the settings right? All that can make the difference between unimpressive and flat out flooring. Also, have you had your ears checked recently? (Not to be negative) You never know what can happen to your hearing.

My speaker wire and HDMI cables are from Best Deal Cables:

I have the Infinity Apha/Beta line with three of the ES250s:

I also have the Denon 3808CI:

I using a Playstation 3. I also have the following speakers from Infinity: Alpha 50s front right and left, Beta C360 center, a PS10 subwoofer, and three Beta ES250 rears. You can Google those to find more information about them.

The settings are right as far as I know. If I press "Display" on the PS3 I can see I'm getting the lossless formats. Everything appears to be set up right. I also don't think there's anything wrong with my hearing. It does sound good. Maybe I just need to crank up an action movie once to really hear it. Perhaps I haven't given it a fair shake since I don't usually listen to movies too loud.

Yeah, you need to crank it. You might want to try a new sub too.

Try Twister and Black Hawk Down on Blu. If you don't hear a difference there, then I guess there is no telling a difference with Blu.

"I was wondering if anyone can say from experience that true Dolby hd sounds better"?

---------------------------------In the same way the Dolby digital supassed prologic YES...absoloutley...it is "crisper, more dynamic, it has more life. You will truly here the difference even with cheaper gear...BUT you must have the right gear!

"I have a yamaha receiver now, using a ps3, going through an optical cable. In order for me to switch I have to spend around 400.00 to get an updated receiver. I just was looking for help regarding if it is worth the expense. My current receiver is a 7.1 yamaha but no true hd"?

---------------------------------I'm no expert, but you will need an amp that does then new formats...Dolby Tru HD & HD Master Audio...I have the Yamaha RX-V663...It is an entry level unit but most ceartainly when matched with the right speakers CLEARLY perfoms presenting the new sound formats in all their glory. No doubt more exspensive models, once again. matched with the right gear will outperform...but this new format of HD sound will have you arive in a new level of entertainment.

Dont worry about all the TECH people waffle on about...unless you enjoy it as I do. You may have to ask for help with setting up as a little configuring of your reciever/speakers/and player will be needed in order to have HD comming out your speakers. There is more to it than simply plugging everything in. Dont worry about PCM if you have a PS3 as when set up correctly the sound comming out you speakers will sound the same (if done right) to any other bitstream player or not.

Over all............Yep HD is everything it's cracked up to be. Just know that having the right gear, compatibility, setup, configuration settings for each device & ofcourse the soucre itself will determine what level you will arive in this new & wonderfull HD exsperience.

Exscuse spelling...I just did a fresh install and have no office or ABC program installed

I hope you ejoy HD as much as I...

I have the same speaker setup, but with a Yamaha HTR-6090 receiver and 12" Velodyn subwoofer + 12" Klipsch subwoofer. The lossless codecs are the reason I have spent my grandchilden's trust on my HT system. It's all worth the money to me. I am more "audio" than "video", so the new audio formats were made just for me. I love DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1/7.1 more than True Dolby HD...it's louder and has better sound separation to me . Don't be scar'red my brother; turn it up!!

The bottom line is DTS adds more to there mix, while dolby doesn't and i dont know why.
the only audio track from dolby that i can say sounds amazing is the one from cloverfield, thats one the best audio tracks Iv every heard. i can only imagin if it was in DTS-MA.
Thers alot of good sounding dolbyTruHD tracks out there but DTS sound's better.
even the lossy dts sound's better than the lossy dolby, jarrasic park agree's with me.
