BTW, I just saw the new Pio 6020 at costco warehouse for 4299 if anyone is interested in that. Tempting, but I'm digging the new LG.
The LGs suffer from major blackwash... you get very deep blacks but you lose color detail as a result, better to stick with a brand that knows how to make TVs than a brand that should have stuck to refrigerators and cellphones. If really deep blacks are all you want, then sure, by all means get an LG or the 650 series samsungs, but if you want true colors, deep blacks, and a TV that is gonna last you a long time, go with Pio or Panny

If you place the Panasonic on the 48HZ film refresh mode it has been reported that there is an “unwatchable flicker” and at the very minimum a “flicker issue”. I would strongly go with the Pioneer over the Panasonic if you plan on watching a lot of BLU-RAY’s.
Thanks man..you saved me 3600.00 bucs
I did some research over at AVS after reading your post , flicker is a big problem with that particular display...Why Cnet gave it such a great rating.. ..they need to get there act together .
Anyway I will be going with Kuro

Thanks to all that participated in thread.

Dude, for someone new, you sure aren't starting out on the right foot around here. You're welcome to your opinions, of course, but be prepared for those "antiquated posters" around here with a hell-of-a-lot more knowledge and experience than you to call you on it.

Smart choice! I've got 3 Pany's, and love them, but if I had the money it would be a Kuro for me.

My choices,
Panasonic TH-50PZ800U ($3000 - $4000)
Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-111FD ($4000 - $5000)

Checking out cnet reviews Panny has better color/THX with great blacks.
Kuro has the better blacks yet color accuracy isn't as good as Panasonic.
I just went through the same process. I upgraded to a brand new plasma nad debated for ever between Panasonic and Pioneer. I read reviews, read this forum, read many other forums, looked at them at brick and mortar stores and in the end...went with the Panasonic. My eventual conclusion was that Pinoeer, although a little better TV, isn't worth the extra cash. I could have put put the extra money if I really wanted to, but an extra $1000 is a big deal to me and athough I do conseed that Pioneer is a little better, it isn't enough better (sorry about the bad grammar) to constitute the extra money.

I love my new Panasonic and have no regrets!

I noticed a few posts where people stated that once calibrated, the kuro would be closer in color accuracy to the Panny, but I read the review that the OP was referring to and the experts at CNET did calibrate both sets before comparing them side by side.
These sets are so similar that you should only go with the Pioneer if status symbols are important to you.
I would spend the extra grand and get the 58" Panny instead of the 50" Pioneer.

Kind of depressing really...What was Pansonic thinking

No money issues here but I would definitely pick up Panasonic TH-50PZ800U If there was firmware update around the corner to fix flicker.
I may just hold off on upgrading for a month or two ...maybe firmware update fix fingers crossed....If not , Kuro it is.

Some may be thinking ,,,Why wait , get the Kuro sling
My answer to that is White levels...Ive come across a lot of chit chat about whites not being so white, hmm that bothers me.
Don't get me wrong , Kuro is Grade A the king of Blacks yet Panasonic THX has got my attention.

Grrrrrr this sucks , I'm finding it hard to sleep at night because I'm dreaming I'm in BestBuy picking wrong Display lol

you could always buy the panny and just not use it in 24p mode... just use it in 60Hz mode instead of 48Hz

You guys keep talking about calibrating your plasma. I am unfamiliar with that. How do you know if you need it calibrated and how do you do it? Thanks

If you haven't done it, then you need to.

There's a stickie about calibration - and tons of threads about individual TV models.
