However, you are spending time posting on here?

What else don't you care about? Maybe you can go post on those forums instead.

Changing formats is like religious conversion for some people. You can preach until you are "blu" in the face. They will convert when they are good and ready. Not a second sooner.

Still other people are influenced by the wave of popularity or actions of others. When I bought my new car almost 10 years ago, at least 3 or 4 friends did the same when they saw I bought one.

DVD is now the "VHS of disc formats" when it comes to quality. I suppose you can say Laser Disc and Video Disc are the "Betamax of disc formats".

You make a very good point... for example in about october of 2007 a lot of my friends' parents and their friends, etc. asked me which way to go... I told them blu-ray had the backing of some powerhouse brands and studios, Fox, Disney, Sony Pictures, etc. and that it wasn't likely to lose the "war" any time soon...

About a month later I find out that the one guy Paul had bought a huge new TV (65 inch i think) from a local retailer and had been convinced to get an HD-DVD player to go along with it... and then within a few weeks all the people I had spoke to before ended up getting HD-DVD players, having seen the picture on Paul's TV and wanting to experience it at home.

When I go to these people's houses now I have to try not to laugh at them for not taking my advice.

I'm probably responsible personally for five or six people getting into Blu-ray. And I warned everyone I knew to stay away from HD DVD.

When we have a party at my house for a birthday or holiday, I always put on a blu movie as background on the TV. Eventually someone will say wow, that looks amazing and then the blu discussion begins. Thru work I have convinced at least 10 other people to get a PS3. Some like games and some like movies and with the PS3, you get both. A standalone player is something I will probably never buy unless they are dirt cheap. For the same price I would rather have a game system too. Cars is a great movie to play with someone with kids. I put on "Blazing Saddles" at the last party and the older folk could not believe this was the same movie they grew up with. It looks great on blu.
