Phantasy Star Portable was already announced as a future officially supported title. Games other than the 33 tested already work with differing success.

i dont think this would run too well with the PS3 going wireless ...
you gotta figure the PSP first hasn to transmit to the PS3 wirelessly .. and then the PS3 has to transmit to the internet .. if that were to also be wirelessly . that would be some major laggy stuff man ... especially on monster hunter . i did once play a game of that ad hoc and it had major lag issues ..

USA adhocParty for PSP Available Soon

adhocParty for PSP Available Soon
Posted by Kristin Neirinckx // Marketing Manager, PSP

Quote:
Hi everyone! Great news for all of you Ad Hoc fans out there –adhocParty for the PSP system, which first launched in Japan last year, is coming to North America! AdhocParty is an online service that allows PSP owners with a PS3 system to connect to one another via the PlayStation Network. It will be available as a free download on the PlayStation Store soon.

So, how does adhocParty work? PSP titles with adhoc mode traditionally require you to play within close proximity to each other. AdhocParty takes advantage of the interoperable capabilities of the PSP and PS3 systems. It enables you to play games featuring Ad Hoc mode, such as Gran Turismo and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, over the Internet through the PS3. Your PSP connects to the PS3 via Wi-Fi, allowing you to chat online with fellow gamers in North America before jumping into competition from the comforts of each of your respective living rooms.

In addition to all of its competitive and social gaming features, adhocParty for PSP supports voice chat through the Wireless Headset or PlayStation Eye, offering you a complete and immersive gaming experience only available on the PlayStation platform.

We’ll have more details for you soon. Enjoy!

Lots of PSP games feature Ad Hoc Mode, which allows two or more players – each with a copy of the same title – to play together or share content via a wireless connection between their PSP systems. Before the introduction of adhocParty, players had to be in the same place, with their PSP™ systems no more than 10 metres apart, to enjoy Ad Hoc Mode. adhocParty changes that. Now you can connect your PSP to another PSP system in another location using your PS3 as a server to bridge the geographical divide. This means that you can make the most of the Ad Hoc Mode functions in some of your favourite games even when none of your friends or fellow players are close by!

adhocParty on PS3 also acts like a communication platform where players create “houses” where they can chat (via voice and text) in order to align themselves for the game play on their PSP. When entering the application 10 worlds are displayed. Every world is made up of 64 lobbies which the player can enter in form of an avatar. Up to 32 avatars can be within each lobby where houses are displayed. Each house represents a group of players who communicate around their specific game mission. Gamers can create their own house where they act as hosts and decide on the topic and the avatars entering the house.

Compatible games include Gran Turismo, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, Dissidia Final Fantasy and Resistance: Retribution. The full list of compatible games will be announced nearer release.

To use adhoc Party you need to simply connect your PSP to a PlayStation 3 system via a wireless network connection, then access adhocParty to find other players who want to play the same game as you. Just to note that to use adhocParty, your PlayStation 3 must be connected to the internet via a wired connection.

adhocParty will be available from the PlayStation Store to download to the PS3 for free. So join the adhoc Party!

I still wish that the thing was compatable with wireless connections. My router is just too far away from my console. Still, at least its nice to know that people will play Gran Turismo PSP and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite online without using XLink Kai soon enough.

This is awesome news. I'm currently using the Japanese version to play Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, and I absolutely love this program. It'd be nice to have an english version so I actually know what all the menus do, and so I don't accidentally screw up the settings or something like that.

I just tried ADHOC PARTY but it wouldnt let me use it because my PS3 is not wired to the internet. I hate to be the first to complain but what if my internet connection is upstairs and my PS3 is downstairs. This is not very convinient

I had the same issue, I had to bring my PS3 upstair to connect via wire.

Adhoc seems a bit confusing, I was able to play 4 rounds of GT PSP and it worked really well while playing. It just took forever to get people to join my races etc. Then again it was just released last night and Im sure people are trying to figure it out and didnt know how to join my game

Wondering if anyone can answer this, do I need to be in a lobby to play a game via adhoc or can I just be in the world for others to see my game or for me to see them? I was expecting GT PSP to have all the garages full with games going on, but I only saw 1 full "maybe because not many on adhoc yet?" Are the lobbys really just for people to chat?

I think the reason why you need to have your PS3 hardwired is because the wireless (-B?) card in the PS3 doesn't have the bandwidth to send/receive game data packets between two wireless devices at the same time. If they tried to enable this, the lag would be so horrible that it would make online virtually unplayable.

If you really want to use Ad Hoc party without moving your PS3/router just go buy a wireless bridge. I think they can be had for under $80.

This is going to be great for Monster Hunter!!!

You know what's funny??

This was one of the things I downloaded a couple of months ago when I was into the whole Japanese account thing. I had this on my ps3 for about a month and then deleted it because I had no idea the ps3 had to be wired.
