I watched it some more, faces are extremely soft, evenly ghostly looking, as with dvd/upconverted dvd, there are some striking shots of houses and landscapes tho that do seem true blu..

My thoughts as well. A few of the early titles do indeed look good, but even they are not worthy of the cores they got. Layer cake 5 out 5 for PQ? maybe at times but the scene right before Morty goes apeshit on that guy to the Duran Duran song, just look at how soft it is, like upconverted dvd for sure. There are many reference shots in that movie but as a whole I'd say 3.5 to 4 stars PQ.
go back and look at some of the scores, you'll get a quality chuckle or two out of it.

Looked okay to me. Nothing spectacular but certainly not horrible or comparable to DVD.

I have both and have never been struck impressed by the blu, any specific scenes that jump out?
yes. watch the scene where the kids hide outside the witches house and bloom walks up to the door. sick PQ.

the PQ on this isn't horrible, nor is it great. i'd say 3/5 (on a scale where DVD=1). there is still no comparison with the DVD.

PQ or not, I'd say that for the film itself. Didn't do much for me.

Someday I'll give it another chance, though.

I recently watched it again, there are some scenes with buildings and cars that pop, just not as many with people and faces as you'd come to expect in a blu

Default Is "Big Fish" worth upgrading?

Just wondering. I hear mixed things about it.

If you are considering an upgrade, you obviously know if you like the movie well enough, so I assume you are asking for PQ and AQ advise. In my opinion they are both excellent on this release, and I would certainly have upgraded (if I hadn't bought the BD from the start).

I imagine you've already read this site’s review, and I agree with it on the whole.

If you like the movie I'd say go for it.
It's not incredible but there's nothing particularly wrong with it, just kind of soft.

In my opinion, no; from what I hear, not a grand slam on the video improvements and virtually none of the bonus features from the DVD were carried over. I'm holding out for a special edition release some day...

I'd have to say yes. The movie does look soft (like it's intended) and the Blu-ray shows it off perfectly. The featurettes that were on the DVD are missing, but the most interesting extra, the commentary with Tim Burton, is still there.

I have also upgraded and think the film looks great. I would suggest getting it cheap. The film looked alright on DVD and so the upgrade isn't the biggest upgrade but probably the best the film will ever look
