I agree. Cheadle has better presence and personality. If they are thinking of something bigger down the line, I would get Cheadle now. I think this is what is happening.

Similar to having Sam Jackson as Nick Fury. They could have had anyone play Nick Fury, but Fury could become a franchise on its own. Jackson has the power to carry Fury and Shield movies.

Cheadle also has comidic experience. He has better range. Downey Jr has shown great range. I didn't realize he could be funny as well as serious. I think Cheadle would be an excellent near and long term addition to the Marvel Universe.

The Ultimates comic version of Nick Fury, from approximately four years before the Iron Man film, is based on Samuel L. Jackson.

I agree with jwbbud...Terrence Howard saw the writing on the wall for his role and demanded more money....the studios called his bluff and dropped him...I think both parties handled this wrong...Terrence Howard is the better actor, IMO(don't attack me for saying that), and Cheadle is too tiny for Warmachine...I like both actors, but Howard was good for this part and greed cost him a great role...

Just watched Iron Man again last night and, it is going to be weird seeing someone else come in to fill the role. Though, if they wanted a near look alike, they could have gone with Cuba Gooding Jr. Considering the success of the first one, it's not a big surprise that he wanted more money if that is really what it came down to, especially as his role likely increases in the second movie as War Machine.

I think a lot of people would have said the same thing about Downey Jr. as Stark, but they would have been wrong.

Marvel should have had the foresight to sign him on for multiple films before they even shot the first, then this wouldn't be an issue.

yeah a cool person who forces his girlfriends to use baby wipes, maybe Downey and the cast didn't want to use baby wipes either?. You should check out the other thread when news broke about the replacement .

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...errance+howard.

Some really jackass quotes from this "cool person". I met him in person at my job. He demanded free food? Seriously, he made his assistant make a fuss.

Also, if it was greed the guy wouldn't flat out say "Yeah I wanted a lot more money and they didn't want to give it to me so I bluffed and now I'm out" OF course not. Instead he said something like his statement. Pooooor Howard.

Just don't know where all this Howard praise is coming from? He's been in like 8 movies(not exact so don't quote me on that). That aren't even memorable.

Cheadle has proven he can act, he has done a variety of roles. Granted Comic book movie is a new step for him and I don't see it turning out bad.
Maybe Cheadle will work out for the role gain some muscle, who knows? I see why people are pissed for continuity's sake, but I don't even remember Howard in Iron Man.

I also think Howard would've been the better actor for the role. Cheadle is a good actor as well but the actor doesn't fit him. I'll wait and see when this gets released to see the outcome of this fiasco.

Poopshoot is the only person in this entire thread that makes any sense IMO. The guy is a creep and has accomplished very little. I for one will be happy to see him gone.

you can't blame him for wanting more money.. who wouldnt try to negotiate more after the success of the first one?

i bet Robert Downey is asking, and getting, a tooooon more for the next one

Howard probably just demanded too much and stuck to his guns, he shoulda waited for the third one to do that... as he isnt that important in the first one to warrant a stern demand

i cant see Cheadle being war machine, he's a great actor but still.. heck i could see 50cent as War Machine more than cheadle.. they shouldnt have gone with a name and went for one of the plethora of great actors who lack the fame.

What's Favreau saying about all this? or is he keeping quiet

it was actually a long standing series. he was also a part of west cost avengers and force works. he's actually been involved with a lot of teams.

Howard was perfect for this. Cheadle is scrawny and just doesn't fit in this series. His looks alone are way off for this role.. what happened?

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Go read the comic book Ultimates Vol. 1 to see exactly why they wanted to cast Sam as Fury.

A lot of people don't read ultimates especially the older crowd. It was made to get new readers involved because there was 30+ years of back story that would be too much for a new reader.

War Machine also has his own book right now (sort of, to be official in a few months).

There are/were 2 Iron man books Iron Man: Director of Shield and Invincible Iron Man -- Iron Man: Director of Shield is currently staring War Machine exclusively and is going to end next month and be restarted as War Machine #1.
