It works out that the average comparable price across Europe is about $675. I say comparable because we have tax included in all of our selling prices, whereas the US does not. Sony have given themselves a 10% margin for error on the currency markets, which is quite a lot, so they are definitely creaming some off the top.

No $675, once you account for tax of about 15% across Europe (some places have it higher and other lower, but 15% is about right), you have €599=$797. $797/1.15=$690, but as the UK is getting the lion's share of units I lowered it as tax is 17.5% here. Sony have set a price of €599 across the whole of Europe, if retailers do not stick to that there is nothing they can do, so your price of €675 is set by the retailer as they will cream off about €100 from that as profit, €85 goes to the government in VAT/sales tax, and the rest, €490, will go to Sony.

In terms of quality the USA, Japan, China, and many other countries can make high quality products on robotic assembly lines. The advantage of having products made in China is a lower cost product can be made. China has made both high quality and low quality products.
Once an engineer designs a product a company will try and find the lowest cost place in the world to get that product developed and at the same time try and maintain quality production standards. We live in a global economy. As soon as one company starts outsourcing all other companies need to follow to stay competitive. Last edited by HDTV1080P; 03-21-2007 at 07:20 PM. Reason: grammer |

Which reminds me.....which CE device is easier to make (or easier to make it higher-quality):
Sony PS3 or Sony BRAVIA TV??? I ask this becuase: If it is easier to make a PS3 console that is of higher-quality compared to producing an HDTV set, then it shouldn't be a problem as to where the PS3 is made (or where it is manufactured). So in respect, it doesn't matter AT ALL if the PS3 is made in Japan or in China/Malaysia. But it is not okay if your BRAVIA is made in place outside Japan (like in Mexico for stateside people who bought XBR 2/3 sets). So yeah, I guess there's nothing to worry about. And besides, Foxconn and ASUS have been in the electronics/computer hardware business for decades. I'm sure there's nothing to worry about reputation. Hey at least it's better than buying a car that's made in China than compared to buying a PS3 built from the same country. ![]() |

Why weren't US consoles made in Japan? Honestly what difference does it make?
My Chinese manufactured PS3 has been working great for over 4 months now. |
