Does running this effect the operation of movies or games, or does it only run when the PS3 is idle? I had a quick look around the site but I couldn't find this info.
A work unit is roughly 200-500Kb, all dependant on what protein you are working on.

Process time will vary depending on the protein, but for the most part it's about 7hrs (averaged).

The program will only run when the system is idle as it utilizes 100% of the CPU.

Just checked, we're now ranked at 10,783 of 52,870. Not bad at all, we've completed 21 work units so far.

The backrgound screen is amazing, showing us the distribution of PS/3, with high speed Internet connections, around the world.

It would interesting to find the member who is most isolated.

For density, the key cities of North America are dense (San Diego, LA, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, Chicago, Detroit and Toronto) and there is that near solid mass from Boston down to Washington DC.

Britain is an Xmas tree, and Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka are dense in Japan.

I think there are a few in the Indian Ocean. I thought I saw one east of South Africa, maybe northeast, and on just southwest of India. There are also a few that are pretty isolated in Alaska and Northern Canada.

Highlight the Folding program and push Triangle; use the Autostart menu to choose how long the system needs to be idle before the program starts.

I saw this mentioned in another part of the forum and went in at lunch time and signed up for this team. I had 4 units of work prior to signing up for the 56895 team (didn't belong to a team prior to that). I don't yet show up on the member list and the 4 units of work apparently didn't "transfer" (at least not yet). Anyway, my PS3 continues to churn along and will do much more. Thanks for setting this up. Maybe it could be highlighted somewhere outside of the "off topic" section?

They count the number of active people RETURNING to use the F@H feature as members. So 16 of you have returned. The rest who have registered the team has not.

Some people, who I believe to be X-Box fanboys or HD-DVD fanatics, says that this will increase global warming by the increase in electricity use. Of course they are not taking into consideration the alternative: other computers using MORE electricity at lower efficiency and the human cost that entails slower folding rate. The faster we finish, the better off we are.

Think of the electricity bill as an investment in your health and the health of the people you know.
