Yeah, because everything has been so wonderful over the last 8 years.
it could be much worse. i think many of us forget the days of double digit unemployment and the dow sinking 20% in a day.

while economic hardships are certainly here and we have a lot of work to do to fix this, things have been much, much worse in the past.

a lot of what is going on right now is very reminiscent of the mid to late 70s IMHO.

What will happen is that L.A. will probably end up with less money and at the same time, hurt L.A. Business.

I lived in Colorado for about 2 years. There are towns in Colorado that have low taxes and those that have much higher taxes. I bet you can guess when It came time to purchase an expensive item such as TVs, washer and dryers, etc. where I went to purchase. You bet, the next town over with the 3.5% tax not where I lived at 6%.

Politicians are either dumn or they think we are.

New Hampshire, Live Free of Diet

I never pay with cash anymore (the debit card's too easy) but when I used too use cash I loved the lack of sales tax because so many things are $19.96 and the ATM gives $20's. It was much easier to know if you had enough money for something because it sells for the marked price.

Silly Americans. The more you ask your government to do for you, the more of your freedom will be lost. Everyone was ecstatic on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. I'm sure you all felt warm and fuzzy as Oprah and the rest of the world sang Kum Ba Yah. Wake up. You'll need a second job just to support Obamanation (that is, if he is successful in pushing through the programs he has envisioned).

It's so intellectually lazy to blame George Bush for the economic mess in which we find ourselves. However, if you do some digging, you will find the roots of the current problem in legislation called "The Community Reinvestment Act." Unrestrained greed had more to do with the current crisis than anything else. Bad judgement spread from Wall Street to the individual homebuyer—everyone was out to make a quick buck without producing a thing. People invested in properties they were ill-prepared to afford—don't tell me they were coerced by unscrupulous lenders. Are we not free to make our own decisions anymore? The mortgage crisis has more to do with excessive risk-taking than anything else. Everyone was gambling with their future and those who lost should have to live with their mistakes.

Recessions are normal. Economies have ebbs and flows. The government has been lowering interest rates and printing money to artificially keep things afloat and the Republicans out spent the Democrats they replaced—they got what they deserved—the boot. What we have now is a perfect economic storm and it will take years for us to dig out of it.

My fear is that there is nobody on the horizon prepared to clean up the mess after the next four years have passed. Yes, I am praying that my fears about Barack Obama are baseless.

+1. Any government help is a short term gain for a long term loss in the form of higher taxes later on. The 2nd job thing has already happened. Two spouses now work, one for the bills and the other for taxes (true!), unlike my parents where only one had to work.

Your're right. Our freedom is slowly slipping away to more laws and regulation.

That explain why so many kids do stupid things because there's no parent at home to teach them, they too busy working to bay the bills and tax.

Just wait till federal tax rates go up. Politicians usually promise the world during the time they run for office, always painting this rosy picture of how things will be once they get into office. Once elected, "I looked under the hood of the financial crisis and it's worse than estimated, we'll have to roll up our sleeves and all pitch in" Translation, roll up your sleeves === give me more $$$ (however that comes about, seize 401ks, IRA's, higher taxes, luxury taxes, sin taxes...). Kiss your discretionary cash good-bye.

btw...Aaron's post is spot on.
