I was abused and heckled for doing nothing but standing in line to see a session of Return of the King. Things escalated fast and I was forced to leave the queue and go home. Never did end up seeing that on the big screen.

I have to hide my love of these films and NEVER discuss them openly with anyone in public, unless it's on these forums which is a damn shame.

When will we sci-fi and fantasy aficionados get some love and a bit less hatred

Wow, thats crazy!!!

I think it wasn't your quiet admiration of sci-fi and fantasy films that inspired the abuse, but rather you live close to some legit crazy folk who have some serious issues with themselves.

Never thought that Australia would have the anti-scifi attitude considering Farscape was filmed there with almost an entirely Australian cast (Ben Browder was American).

This is the controversial opinions thread. I guess I win for getting this comment?

I didn't say The Hunger Games was the worst movie ever made. I said it's in the top 20 worst. The worst is Billy Madison.

I would say Bad Lieutenant is my favorite of the 90s (and #4 of all time), Pulp Fiction is in my top 5.

As for the 2000s, it's between Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans and There Will Be Blood and Mulholland Drive. It's close, but I am aware the most controversial choice is what I put.

As for the Dark Knight, it's good, but it's not even in the top 50 of the 2000s. Heck, it's not even the best in its series.

Sucker Punch is severely underrated and misunderstood.

The Matrix sequels are severely underrated and misunderstood.

People complain about Prometheus now, saying the characters were stupid and nothing makes sense. Years from now, it'll be praised as a masterpiece, alongside with Alien and Blade Runner, which were also considered crap when they were released. I'm willing to bet money on that.

I hate movies that have no conflict or stakes, internal or external. They don't feel like actual stories or plots to me, just a bunch of crap that happens. Chief examples: Lost in Translation, L'aaventura, Into the Wild, etc.

A lot of the "Oscar bait" movies (Slumdog Millionaire, King's Speech, The Artist, etc) are fine and dandy, but I have serious doubts that these movies will be remembered years from now.

I hate French New Wave.

It's getting to the point where Asian cinema is often better than American cinema.

There's not enough pulpy R-rated high fantasy or sword and sorcery films out there.

Some of the bloodiest and goriest films I've seen are also the funniest. Seriously, I dare you to watch Tokyo Gore Police and not laugh.

I love slow motion photography.

I love computer generated imagery.

I love movies with weird camera angles or really wild light and shadows.

I don't like Julianne Moore as an actress in most films she's in.

There are maybe a few Stephen Soderbergh movies I like, but I hate the rest.

Paul W.S. Anderson films are fun.

I never understood the Michael Bay hate.

I think Uwe Boll is gradually maturing as a director, and is actually semi-decent with movies that aren't based on video games.

There's not enough symphonic metal music in film scores and soundtracks.

Who cares whether not Han Solo shot first?

Now, how many people have I ticked off today?

Thank You!

I've been saying this since the release of both sets of films. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

The movie Oldboy 2003.
[Show spoiler]The scene at the end where he is licking the guys shoes like a dog.
I thought it was hilarious, and I burst out laughing in the theater. Judging from the looks I got from my GF at the time, my brother and other theater goers, my opinion in humour was not shared.

Everyone here likes remakes, but they just don't like to admit to it. In fear od being made fun of like a little kid.

Also Rob Zombie's Halloween was better then John Carpenters.

What? How can you possibly presume to speak for other people? You crazy?

Star Wars isn't even in the 10 best films of 1977. And given the existence of 2001: A Space Odyssey 9 years earlier, I find it hard to consider it great on the basis of effects alone.

I don't presume, I just know! There's alot of deep seeded secrets people keep in their closets. Whether they be a closet remake fan, or a closet transsexual. (Not saying anyone on here is)

Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper's scene together in "True Romance" is the best film scene between two male actors ever.

My 2 controversial opinions for the day:

1. For those hockey brawl fans out there ---- Goon was better than Slapshot.

2. For those animation fans --- The Pixar movies from the past 10 years (Up, Wall-E, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Brave, etc....) are better than the classic Disney movies (Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Beauty & the Beast, etc....).
