I dont see how they can put Quinn into the picture cuz u'd need the joker for that..as far as the choices given..i'd say the riddler. but i agree with some of u on the Madhatter, that'd be interesting. as far as superman in gotham...i'd say Nolan would be the perfect choice to make that happen. and title it World's Finest

What's so particularly-great about The Riddler (seeing as how he is in the lead here)?

I just remember how great a job Jim carrey did. And if they could find someone to blow Jack Nicholson's performance out of the water as the joker, they might be able to do the same with the riddler.

I voted for Catwoman but not because she'd be the big bad of the movie, just 'cuz I think she'd be an interesting foil for Nolan/Bale's Batman. Otherwise, I'm really not too hot with the other names on the list. Mr. Freeze became a very interesting character in TAS, but in a live action film, he's just a bad guy with a gun. Penguin, mob boss with an umbrella. Ledger did too good a job as The Joker for there to be a plausible reason for Harley. The Riddler might be plausible, but what, for lack of a better phrase, is his motivation that's on par with a global villain who almost poisoned an entire city and a psycho who crapped on the mob and the Gotham justice system. My preference is to introduce Talia al Ghul, tie her in obviously with her father, maybe she's even the new leader of the League of Shadows. Having Nolan create a strong female villain for Bale's Batman to have to deal with would be fresh and new. It couldn't necessarily be about physical combat, but wits and strategy, which has been in every Nolan Batman film.

I don't think Jim Carrey's hyper-manic, campy and overall cartoon-ish portrayal of The Riddler fits in with the Christopher Nolan model of the "Batman" universe... so, if they did choose to go with that character I'd imagine it'd be an entirely different take. |

I think it should be the Riddler (preferably portrayed by Depp) and Black Mask. The Riddler would be the main villain with hopefully some fun "games" (maybe like Saw but not totally?) for his victims and I guess he could be used as a character to find out who Batman is, so the police could arrest him for his "murders".
Black Mask would be the mob villain, and I believe he has a history with Bruce. I wouldn't mind seeing the Ventriloquist though with his Scarface dummy. That guy just gives me the creeps.... ![]() |

Johnny Depp could probably only pull off a good manic Riddler. That's not the sort of Riddler that I'd like to see... we already got that from Jim Carrey, and that's how it was done in the '60s too. Frankly, I'd say that Depp would be more apt to doing The Joker (although, a different Joker than Ledger's).
Riddler should be played straight. A fine gentleman in a nice green suit and bowler. A calm and composed fellow who commits crimes and is driven by a compulsion involving riddles. I was involved in a similar discussion elsewhere and the best actor for this sort of thing in my opinion turned up to be Hugo Weaving. If Depp played it that way, I think it would probably come off as too dark and sinister. Remember that the Riddler might be a thief, but he's not an outright killer like the Joker is; he's not fundamentally evil. Quote:
But, say, Hush, would be great too. Unique, not a known character outside of comics, and his appearance would play well into the plot of Batman having been identified as a murderer. Others like Black Mask would probably a step backwards after what we've seen thus far. I'd say even the likes of Penguin would be a step backward... if they include these sorts of characters, they'd have to be more like cameos I think, because I don't see how they could hold the full length of a film after what this Batman's been through this far.
