Yes that is exactly what they did to me. I was able to get them to refund me the difference though the time it happened to me. I think the policy says (or did before at least) that if the price drops up until the end of release day you should get the release day price even if your item ships before or on release day.

I stopped ordering from amazon.com for other reasons (the bad Canadian dollar exchange rate).

Good rant. I enjoyed reading it.

On the whole I like Amazon. But I generally keep a close eye on the prices of the pre-orders. If I notice a Brick and Mortar store with a similar price near the release date, I'll cancel my pre-order last minute.

Agreed - in fact, just yesterday I got a credit on a book that dropped .70 the day before release even though it had already shipped. What's even better is that I waited until it poped up in my gold box deals of the day, so technically I paid less than the new price anyway - but since the price dropped, they credited me the difference anyway. Not a ton, but every little bit helps.

I received an email from Amazon a few days ago, they're giving me $5 store credit because of the Kung Fu Panda price drop issue. This is not a price matching but just a goodwill from them. In my next order I got $5 discount.

So, they know about this, they could be working something out to avoid this from happening again.

Same thing with me. I've preordered a lot of stuff way out and never had a problem. They either credit me through my bank account or through my Amazon account.

I stopped preordering for the most part but I can wait till release date and most of the time I get a good price! Unless I really wanted it and know the resource is shipping early but even still.

They made the price lower THE SAME DAY they shipped it to me ........ on THE DAY IT CAME OUT on ALOT of items....................then their excuse was "well you pre-ordered it more than 30 days ago"

So FINE, they lost all my pre-orders!!! They knew BEFORE they shipped them they were going to LOWER the prices LATER THAT DAY............ they just shipped them FIRST then lowered the price so they could have an EXCUSE to NOT give the lower price they GUARANTEE when you PRE-ORDER.

AMAZON's LOSS....... from now on I will NOT pre-order anything from them. I can wait till the day it comes out and see who has the best price then.

NOW that people are catching on to the SCAM.......... AMAZON is going to be hurting NOBODY but THEMSELVES and THEIR sales.

I am with the original poster on this. I had about $700 worth of pre-orders - that I also have cancelled. I think we need to stick together on this until they get their "stuff" together and start taking better care of their customers.

i've gotten them to give me the difference on items that prices were reduced weeks after i bought them falling under the OLD 30 day price gaurantee. if you need some email examples i can dig for them but i've never failed to get things my way thus far.

I saw that but it's a pain in the a*s to have to keep calling them for all the mistakes they make to get them fixed. Everytime it takes me 20 minutes on the phone. It's not worth my time......... they need to get their act together or they will lose alot of business and not just from me I'm sure.

noticed how i said email though. i've never called amazon to be put through the machine or on hold waiting to speak to someone. i send an email and get a response from <insert random outsourcer's name> within the same day. i feel your frustration though as i have it too. i guess mine just get resolved easier.

Is this isolated, or has it been a blanket thing? I've received low price guarantee rebates on Wall-E and Hellboy 2, and both of those I preordered months ago.

That said, what is the big deal about pre-ordering, with Amazon or any other retailer? Just not having to hassle with remembering order dates? I think I have three or four standing preorders right now, but the rest of my stuff is on my wishlist, and I just order it a few days before release. That hasn't effected the timeframe of when I get my order, the only (very minor) inconvenience is keeping track of what comes out, and when.

Correct me if Im mistaken, but Amazon doesn't benefit from preordering. They don't charge till they ship, so it doesn't generate revenue. So why not just wait until within 30 days to preorder?

I told them that under the comments on all the ones I cancelled too. If more people do the same thing......... MAYBE they will get the picture and finally stop CHEATING people who Pre-Order with them.

I'm DONE with Pre-Ordering from Amazon until they get their act together and stop SCAMMING everybody who does. I hope alot of other people do what I'm doing....... it's the only way to make them change.

From now on, I will NOT order a blu-ray until at least the day it comes out and then I will order it from whoever has the lowest. NO MORE will I trust Amazon to apply their supposed "pre-order guaranteed lowest price" because they will NOT do it.

Also, when you call them about it.......... they say "well you pre-ordered over 30 days ago and our policy no longer allows us to adjust the price on an order over 30 days"..........RIDICULOUS!!!

If I ordered it and 2 days ago and it shipped 2 days ago and they lowered the price yesterday, they will adjust it....... BUT if I PRE-Ordered it 45 days ago and it shipped yesterday and I got it today and they lowered the price yesterday just after it shipped, they will not give the lower price because they said you pre-ordered it over 30 days ago. SO I ASK YOU........if that is the case, WHY BOTHER pre-ordering from Amazon?????

It's just not worth it!
so basically you have changed the way you have been purchasing movies and really didn't have a thing to do with Amazon. You decided its best to wait a couples weeks as the price will decrease as with KFP, Iron Man and Indy at Amazon. You are choosing to wait to view those releases rather than get them right away. It really has nothing to do with Amazon but good luck

NOT gonna wait a few weeks........ just gonna see who has the BEST price on day of release and order or go to store and get it then......... instead of just pre-ordering everything from Amazon like I have been.

I spent over $3k with them since December and had another $1k on order but because of they way they've been lowering the price on the ACTUAL RELEASE DAY and NOT adjusting my price.......they're all cancelled now.

I seriously don't know why everyone swears by Amazon. I think it's inconsistant and way overrated. Can someone offer a logical explanation over the hype? Is there something I'm missing?

shipping is usually pretty fast with amazon especially if you have their Amazon Prime because you can have your shipment arrive just like day after release instead of waiting for like a whole week
