People who say that are terrible liars. Currently, I don't have a blu-ray player because I had to sell mine but looking for another one on ebay for cheap. I recall the summer of 2006 when I was still watching dvd until I went to Best Buy just to look around and saw a display of a blu-ray. People who say they can't tell the difference must have 100/10 vision or something like that.

Not a good test with Xbox. Try the Oppo with upconversion.

The Xbox sucks as a DVD player!!! My 3 year will put her Barbie dvds in the bluray player because she says it makes them pretty. Upcoverted dvds look ALOT better on my player. Never will use a dvd player again.

Both my wife and my step daughter don't see a difference. I'm not sure why. It drives me crazy.

There is a HUGE difference.

I was actually thinking of doing this too. I think I still have Spider-Man 2 on DVD and I have my PS2 plugged in...I'll try this tonight and possibly get some screenshots.

My comparison for SD vs HD material with 2001 was a HUGE difference...... of course it was on a 106" screen, but The "Hairs" and lines etc in the screen, not to mention the colors were COMPLETELY different in my DVD copy.... the Blu-ray, as most know, looks fantastic.

Here's a cut and paste from another thread.....

Here are the SD vs HD comparison shots with the projector..... I don't know much about the camera, but I took the pictures from 8' away from the 106" screen..... 2.1 zoom for all shots.... (I think)

THE LAST WALTZ

SD

HD

SD

HD

Then here are some random SD shots....... I use the titles at the beginning etc... to check the focus of the projector to make sure there aren't any blurry lines (this IS SD though......)

Hope those work for you Deads3t.... my camera, and skills aren't so great! They look better in person, but you'll find that out for yourself when you make the plunge!

I can tell the difference between the image quality from Blu-Ray to DVD. But to actually run a test was crazy.

I just bought Ratatouille on Blu-Ray and also had it on DVD. So, I loaded the Blu-Ray on PS3 and the DVD on X-Box 360.

Switching to the exact same scene on both formats - Unreal... you can barely see the whiskers and extra hairs on the rats on DVD.

Like I said, I knew there was a huge difference, but to actually run a test was cool... DVD looks like garbage when comparing it.
LOL...WELCOME!

I figured had I been back on my couch where I normally watch movies from, I wouldn't have noticed much of a difference.

So a few weeks later I was watching Casino Royale, and decided to put my glasses on (I don't regularly wear them, but have a few pairs that I used during college, so I could sit in the back of the class, but still read the slides/chalkboards). That made quite a difference, so I'm not surprised that several eyewear companies have been hopping on the HD bandwagon, to try to sell people more glasses.
I need glasses for reading (I'm 50), but got transition "tri-focals" and wear them for TV viewing now with my 50" plasma. There is enough of a difference and I HATE wearing glasses.

Not mine.. She is hooked .. "Just wait for the blu-ray" "I don't want to watch it until the blu-ray hits" (when it was free on comcast on demand or just on tv).

Heck sometimes she just wants to watch at home versus the theater (unless imax) as she thinks it typically looks and sounds better (which it does ) at home

yeah, mine is cool with blu as well. i just find it a bit surprising how negative some people can be about something that excites their partner.

my wife loves blu ray now as well and wants me to get her older favorite movies on blu to see the difference.

My wife and I got in a HUGE fight over STARGATE on blu!
She expects perfection from blurays. I told her it was $11.99 you get what you paid for. I told her older movies will only look as good as the transfer.
After our disagreements i was sleeping on the couch with my remote.

The hd-dvd add-on has nothing to do with the ability of the 360 to upscale. You just need an HDMI output.

It is nice to see the thread show some legs... I have to reply to all of the "welcome to Blu-Ray" posts. But I have had my 1080p 120Hz Sony BRAVIA LCD and PS3 with HDMI since January.

So, I have been watching Blu-Ray movies since that time... but this was the first time I had two of the same movies on DVD and Blu-Ray.

It was just fun to pause both movies at the same points and view.

Like I said, I have been on Blu-Ray and knew there was a difference... I just never saw the difference side-by-side.

And I have my X-Box 360 going through HDMI and agree the upscaling of DVD's on it is no where as good as PS3... but DVD's on PS3 are still CRAP!

Happy Thanksgiving all!

+1

I was watching Aliens the other night on my XBox 360....and as much as I love that movie to death, watching it in SD was just KILLING me. I dont think I can ever go back to watching anything in SD, including Star Wars, LOTR, Aliens, etc.

on that note, anyone know when Fox plans on releasing Alien/Aliens in BD?
