yea, Meryl Streep!! Definitely one of the greatest actresses of all time, besides Hepburn. She is also one of my favorites, as well.

Yep she is just pure gold..ehem pure talent lol.
Also, just like last year when people where mad that Johnny Depp didn't win best actor, just because an actor is popular because of a role does not mean they necessarily deserve to win the oscar for a role...Ledger was great, but I don't think he will win the oscar although he will most likely get a nom.

You can add The Deer Hunter to this list.

If I had to guess right now what the five nominees would be, I'd pick:

The Dark Knight
Milk
Slumdog Millionaire
The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button
WALL·E

Does that guarantee a win? No. But I wouldn't say it's out of the question.

Revolutionary Road will DEFINITELY be one of the five.
I agree though that DK has a genuine shot at getting a best pic nomination. Sometimes there's a token nod to something that really struck a chord with the mainstream.

Although Wall-E would deserve its place ahead of Dark Knight any day of the week.

Oh Wall-E will def get best animated nomination...There is some competition with the animated film 9.99 since the Academy LOVES stop motion...but Wall-E is phenomenal.
Oh and Benjamin Button isn't getting too hot of reviews as far as I know.

I agree with your list, except I think Frost/Nixon might take the place of The Curious Case.

With great dramatic films coming out this year such as MILK, DOUBT, THE READER, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE, REVOLUTIONARY ROAD, and VALKYRIE, TDK does not have what it takes to compete with these films in the Academy awards...
La-di-da. Well from some who is a Cinema Studies major and a has also viewed the Academy Awards very closely for quite a few years, I still maintain that The Dark Knight has a great shot at a nomination. I don't think The Reader and Revolutionary Road will be received as well as a lot of people are expecting; no way Valkyrie will be nominated.

Plus you keep hearing about declining numbers, and complaints that not enough mainstream films are nominated. Ledger will undoubtably be nominated (especially since it's such a week category this year) and I will be kind of surprised if he doesn't win it.

My current predictions for the top five:

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Dark Knight
Doubt
Milk
Slumdog Millionaire

Maybe substitute Frost/Nixon for Doubt or Slumdog Millionaire.

Sorry, Benjamin Button hasn't gotten too many good reviews based on what I have read so far...and NO WAY Slumdog is replaced by any movie.
People can complain all they want about no mainstream movies, but the popularity contest that is the Academy Awards does not include 'mainstream' films just because people think they are unfair. Sorry (and who says la-di-da...I guess its a cinema studies thing).
