It should look some what better than his HD cable, but there both 720p/1080i, still the BD disc will always look better.I can see much better PQ, the blacks are blacker there's no pixelation & so on... To the member that said , because his TV's res is 1024x768 is the reason he sees no differnets,is wrong. It just sounds like the player is not set to 720p or 1080i ? I have & still watch many BD's my 50" Panasonic 60u 768p & they impres the hell out of me every time. So the OP has big problem some where along the line...try everything mentioned to you & you'll figure it out.

Yeah mine does too, and I have a 61" Samsung DLP 1080p TV. My tv might actually be too big for my room since I only sit about 6-7 feet away but that wouldn't explain why my satellite channels look clear and my blu-rays don't. I have a ps3 which is connected to my tv via hdmi cable, my satellite receiver is also hooked up via hdmi. Most of my blu also look like standard dvds infact some look worse than dvds. There seems to be a lot of noise and fuzziness when I watch blu-rays connected via hdmi. Blu-rays look better for me when they are connected via component cables. My brother has a 60" 1080i Samsung TV and he says he notices the difference of blu-rays and he has mentioned to me that my tv looks really bad compared to his when watching blu-rays. I believe my tv is defective or something so that is why I'm in the market for a new tv. I know this may not help much but just wanted to let you know I know how you feel.

I'm in partial cahoots with this guy here. That resolution won't do Blu-ray anywhere near the justice that it deserves. Also, I believe that there is probably just one setting on one piece of equipment that is set incorrectly. I'm sure that if you take that Blu-ray player to a friend/family member who owns a proper 1080p resolution TV set and hook it up, you'll quickly see why you should invest in a better viewing unit.

Also, if you're TV is calibrated based on a DVD or Cable image, the Blu-ray picture will probably be askew. DVDs and television don't look quite as good as they used to on my TV now that I maximized the TV settings for BD. This is why most people get high end TVs with multiple setting capabilities. You can then have your TV switch easily between the optimized calibration for each format.

from what Ive heard though and from what Ive seen in the store.. the s350 has PQ equal too or greater than the PS3.. Sound quality is a different story but thats another thing...

So I don't thing you can say the reason why your friends looks great is because its a ps3 and the reason yours sucks is cause its the s350.. Even in a worst case scenario.. the s350 would only look slightly worse than the ps3 and not horrible.

My guess is the resolution is being changed to something that the blu-ray player doesnt like or something the TV doesnt like.

I have 19" Samsung LCDs and when they are at 1024x768 they look horrific.. might as well hook up my computer to a plain old TV.. but When I change the resolution to pretty much any other option it looks great...

1024x768 is noot a horible resolution by any means.. just sometimes It has problems being displayed correctly and everything can look hazy and somewhat distorted and pixelated. Sometimes even a lower resolution will look better.. sometimes certain things just hate certain resolutions.

i'm guessing he think that he doesn't think it looks better than his cable because he's watching interlaced stuff like an hd football game (or other things shot on hi def video) and comparing that to a movie when they're two totally different. movies are virtually the same as dvd except the higher resolution, that he can't see, but high def video is a way more than just an upgrade to sd video

what also might have to do with it is that hd broadcasts (on like tnt hd and stuff) pan and scan to fill the screen, so it looks like there is more resolution there, but it's just lack of image space. probably grainy too, for that extra "fake definition" just cuz it's harder for eyes to keep up with it

The low resolution of his/her TV set might be the reason why he/she thinks his BD's looks like DVD's.
Anyway even at that resolution he/she should be able to see a difference.
Heck! once for mere fun I hooked up my BD player to an old school 480p TV set using the Y,cb,cr cables. And the BD's still looked better than the DVD counterparts if only minutely (better color accuracy, contrast, richer blacks, etc.).

Something is wrong either with his/her TV set, or his/her eyesight. That or he/she was expecting way too much from BD's. Like 4k resolution or something. Anyway with such low rez Tv set...

My advice: buy a Sony LCD or a Pioneer Plasma, Full HD or even 720p (1366x768) if smaller than 50". But not too small!
