it's a great movie for those you wondering. Can't attest to PQ/AQ because I don't have it yet on BR.

I'm wondering the same. I was going to buy Iwo Jima and flags of our fathers and Apocalypto but opted to rent them from netflix first.

Wish I could help you but I'm in the same boat. I hear very good things about it though. Hopefully some folks on here can provide us with some reviews.

By the time I watch it, there will probably be plenty of reviews out there.

I haven't cracked this one open, yet, but it is great to see a TrueHD track on a BD from Warner Bros.

No review discs were sent out from Warner on this one. I have put an email into them to find out if they planned on sending them out for review or not. I'll try and post back when I find out.

It made me sick to see a 5/5 PQ for this title when Apocalypto got 4/5 PQ on HighDefDigest. That's why I go by HomeTheaterSpot reviews for the final word on things.

Chad at HomeTheaterSpot is a much more reliable reviewer than Peter Bracke and crew.

As I've noted elsewhere, any Warner title is assumed a 5/5 on picture quality, and he doesn't mark down for minor flaws.

I think he uses a different scale for anything that's not HD DVD. (Note he also gave a 4/5 on PQ to Casino Royale and Rocky Balboa). He hates BD, AVC, MPEG-2, Sony, Disney, or something. He's very biased.

I don't take their reviews seriously any more.

the whole 2nd half of the movie is kind of a continuing battle sequence, but you're not always in the battle if you know what I mean (but you [japanese soldiers] are constantly surrounded and in danger). The 1st half has no battle sequences, but I think it's still great (if not better) because of the planning involved and backstory of the various characters.

Default LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA joins exclusive 5 star PQ/AQ club at HighDefDigest

Even more reason to pick up this movie (and Flags which also scored quite well). I might also note that while Letters was intended to be a sister piece to Flags commercially (in the US), it turned out to be one of those cases where the little brother outshone the big brother (in terms of critical acclaim).

Other 5 star PQ/AQ titles include NIN Beside you in Time (Blu-ray/HD-DVD), Pirates 1+2 (Blu-ray) and the Matrix Trilogy (HD-DVD)

So many war movies are made in the U.S. and are bysis, naturally there has been few films made from our enemies point of view. While, yes they were wrong when trying to take over the world, it is a story of the "little guy" traped in the big picture of poloticians.

true. Also, some wars movies try to play too much on American's sense of patriotism which I think cheapens the movie. The fact that Letters takes time to look at the war from the enemy's side shows understanding which is cool. Anyone know the name of the older movie that looks at WWII from the Nazi's side?
