ARRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!! It's probably BECAUSE of Criterion that it is region locked, since they may have the rights in the U.S.

I'm really disappointed, this is one of my favorites. ITV has been doing so well up to now. I have this arriving any moment now, so I will either sit on it or sell it on eBay. ARRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!

just watching it now: there's a featurette on the restoration of the film for high definition

Its amazing the amount of work that goes into bringing these classics up to scratch

Very pleasing picture quality -highly recommended

Just spotted this listed on play.com for release on 7th February. It is a special valentines re-release with new packaging.
Details from another site
"Recently voted ‘The greatest romantic film of all time’ in the Guardian/ Observer greatest films poll this classic film is a terrific Blu-ray gift for Valentines day.David Lean’s cinematic masterpiece written and produced by Noel Coward now available in a new Valentines packaging."

That boxset is pretty hideous, not only the awful pink (for a black and white movie, just looks odd), and that writing all over the picture...

I like it I think, held off buying the original release as it was always fairly expensive and has only just dropped in price. I also have the US box set of A Bridge on the River Kwai and the large US digibook of Dr Zhivago so think this will go nicely

Just in case anyone is interested this is currently £5.97 on amazon.co.uk
I called them as the image for this product is showing the new valentines boxed version and they confirmed that is the version that will be sent out. Bargain!

Thanks for this! Have been thinking of upgrading from my dvd copy for a while now, and for this price I have no excuse not to. Yes it is out of stock at the moment but they should get it back in soon. Also other stores are charging around twice the price (Play £10.49, HMV £12.99!). If you order now (I have) they can't charge you anymore if the price goes back up.

Hmm, I've been wanting to get this for a while but I just hate the new cover. It seems to have completely replaced the old version, which isn't there anymore. However, at under £6...

I think you will probably find it is just the old amaray case and cover in the valentines box

But it looks so much thicker, is the thing. Anyway I bought it from a seller who had price-matched Amazon's and it arrived today, in the original casing.

what I want to know is what happened to ITV's blu-rays?
they aren't releasing any more classic films that I can tell.

It might have something to do with the poor response to their The 39 Steps Blu-ray release.

That would be a shame, the rest of them were pretty well received. They have access to a pretty big back catalogue of British films, it'd be a shame to have to wait for Criterion to release them, or something. (The Powell and Pressburgers I'm thinking of especially)

Just to give you a heads up, despite me calling to check the edition that Amazon were going to send out was the Valentines edition, they still sent out the standard one. They are going to check with their warehouse team and then will probably send out the correct one at no extra cost. Numptys

Mine was dispatched today so will probably get the standard one as well then. Is it just the packaging that's different? The transfer itself is the same isn't it? Not too worried about which box/case it comes in.
