Ive been running the Plasma Break-In-DVD for about 16 hours so far.

Im trying to avoid black bars for now, and also static channel logo's...but today I absolutely must watch Florida vs. Alabama, but I feel pretty safe no IR will occur. My wife watched Greys Anatomy and no problems.

I think as long as you take the TV off torch mode ...aka Vivid, and just keep your display settings low at first you should be ok.

awe man you're in for a treat!

I have an LCD (granted not op of line or anything), and have seen others first hand.

One thing I will say is Plasma dominates the color field!!!!!

I am sooooo impressed with the lifelike colors. Its unreal.

Panasonic claims that never plasmas like the 800u are barely susceptible with burn-ins anymore. Break-ins should still be made but don't worry about watching a movie with black bars. I'm pretty sure that I'm gona get my brand new PS3 on a test ride right after getting my TV delivered on Tuesday

If you've ever gotten a chance to see the show "How It's Made" on The Science Channel, there was an episode that showed the production of plasma televisions. I'm not sure if the factory was producing screens for multiple manufacturers, or not, though.

Anyway, it was stated in the show that factories ran each plasma screen for about 200 hours to test for color accuracies and the such.

break in.....you betcha! a must do for plasma's not just panny's but all of them.

I have the 80u and broke it in for about 150 hours. i have about 4500 / 5000 hours on my set now and have not had any IR i have watched blu rays back to back to back to back and have had monster gaming sessions 5 hours or longer on cod4 etc and have never had IR

When you think about it 100-150 hours out of the countless thousands of hours you will use the tv is nothing. The reasoning for break in is so that you get the phosphors to burn evenly at the beginning of the tv's life.

Check out this thread though it will tell you everything you will ever need to know about breaking in plasma's.

this link is the direct link to panasonics faq about break in also

This next thread is a calibration thread, there are many great settings here for not only during break in but also for after. mess around with them, find one you like and then tweak to your liking, or get your your set calibrated properly. A lot of the guys on here either are professional calibrators or have had their set calibrated properly. Elways settings in particular are excellent

yes perfectly fine, i believe the dvd has a 24 hour loop. i know people who have had the break in dvd or sd card running overnight while they are asleep. all it is is a full screen slide show of different colors.

i did not use the break in dvd, i just watched everything zoomed in for 150 hours which really just fly's by, especially when you are just watching your fave shows etc

I just got my 85U last Monday and if I play a film with 2.35 and black bars for only a minute and flip the format to 4;3 mode...I can see the IR on the sides ALREADY. My contrast and brightness is even down to +4...almost all the way. So am I scared to watch a full movie with bars right now? YEA.

I guess I'll have to run that breakin DVD for a few days and try and hit 100 hours at least. All my bluray movies I have to watch on zoom which I knew but I wont spoil the Dark Knight...forget it.

I'll wait and just watch the special features to hold me over. IR has shown up really really easy on this TV so I'm not taking any chances.
