A note of heartfelt thanks to all that posted in reply, you are an awesome bunch!

If I had the scratch, I'd buy you all a nice tall beer or whatever adult beverage suits you!

I guess I feel a solidarity for those folks that are suffering worse than others. Of course there are those who legitimately feel that stopping consumption will only make matters worse, vis a vis Sony's 4% workforce reduction announcement.

Sorry for a depressing thread....
Stopping consumption when you dont have income is a fact of life.
Not stopping consumption when you did not have enough income is part of the reason matters have become so bad.

Dont rent or buy anything but food. It might be a while before you start getting income again, and blu-rays are worthless when your broke and dont have food.

From the 1st post: Yes, I would still buy, but only now and then. Got to have some carrot to run after in life.
On the economy: It's a recession if 'your neighbor looses their job, but a depression if you loose yours'.

just basically live within your means... what good is buying a BD when your electricity has been shut off due to nonpayment? if you dont have much to fall back on getting a new job should be priority one.
I worked 60 hrs a week for 25 yrs for my families business... it was sold a few yrs back. I dont miss it much.
right now i work about 25 hours a week and its really nice to be able to afford it and have time for all my hobbies and projects. oh ya that and having most nights and weekends off is great.

I agree that living beyond ones means is what created this mess, but I disagree, like Craig said you need that carrot to keep going. I lost my job in 2004 it took me almost a year to get a new one. It is emotionally extremely hard to be unemployed, and if you where financially responsible and lived within your means when you had your job, you can try and minimize the loss and help bring up your spirits by not changing the rest of your life dramatically when something bad happens.

i actually lost my job at the end of October and have since cut down a lot on my spending. Now I've cut it down all the way unless I make some money from selling unwanted DVDs and CDs. The spends through that means of course goes towards the blu-rays
