Default If You Lost Your Job.....

..would you continue to build your BD collection, or would you start renting?

My engineering position was transferred to Europe in Oct, and since then I have chosen to rent only, even with some very attractive prices recently on top notch BD's.

I guess I feel a solidarity for those folks that are suffering worse than others. Of course there are those who legitimately feel that stopping consumption will only make matters worse, vis a vis Sony's 4% workforce reduction announcement.

Sorry for a depressing thread....

I think I would be more worried about finding a new job instead of if I'm going to buy or rent the new BD's coming out. Getting back to work would be my ONLY priority.

I just hope the money being spent is real money, not credit.

The idea of buying our way out of a recession is technically true, but if we buy everything on credit, we're just temporarily sweeping it under the rug.

Cool

I'll let you know in February if it actually happens to me. Most likely I would find another job so I can keep buying blus, oh, and eating and paying the mortgage

I would be forced to virtually stop making unnecessary purchases because I wouldn't be able to afford them. Right now I'm having enough trouble keeping up with my expenses and without a job I'd probably have to start selling things like my blu-rays. However, I know my job is safe because I work in a family business and as controller I know we're doing very well financially.

BD buying would cease immediately. Netflix plan would be reduced by half, if not completely halted. Ludicrous cable package would go away. Selling increased on ebay. Ramen noodle purchases would increase from zero to always.

Sorry, but if I lost my job the last thing on my mind would be which new Blu-ray to buy...

I would scale down until I got a new job, at least. I don't rent and that wouldn't change.

If I lost my job..... I'd cut back whatever non-essentials I had to to make sure that my savings covered all of my expenses until I got another job.

This is a decision coming up for me. My job now was contract and ends this week. There is nothing for me after this week. I did have a part time job that was suppose to go full time when this one ended, however I quit it after a month. The person running it, we just won't go there. The stress was unreal.

I will have a couple staffing companies looking for me. I can survive about 2 months without a job. That includes no spending on blu's. After that, I will sink and fast.

If I don't have a job, I probably won't be spending any extra money on goodies. I might pick up a blu if I really really want it. However, the days of buying 3/4/5 at a time will be over until I get steady employment.

It's live. I can live

I stopped buying when I started having money issues. I only get what I'm really looking forward to. So the last movie I bought was The Dark Knight. Before that? Hellboy 2 and before that Hulk

This happened to me back in 2003 and I stopped making purchases. With some free time, I started watching my collection. Hopefully, you'll be able to bounce back.
