Default Yamaha BD-2900 Blu-Player,Anyone know about this unit

Iam wondering how this player would stand up to a Panasonic or a Sony(those are the two companies i've been looking at)

Having a Yamaha Reciever it would be nice to have a player from the same company

This is where i would buy it and here's some info on it.Iam wondering what you boy's think

http://www.gibbysaudiovideo.com/yama...er-p-3397.html

The thing iam worried about is the support.I don't know how good Yamaha is for there Blu-ray players?

I would be also useing this player as a CD player and a up-converting player for my DVD's?
It's been very hard for me to find Hands on review of this player?

Here are some links with reviews of the Yamaha BD S2900:

About.com:Home Theater

Softpedia

Audioadvisor

Home Cinema Choice

What Hi-Fi

AvReview.co.uk

Many of the reviews listed above criticize the asking prioce, lack of an ethernet port, no 7.1 RCA outs and not being BD 2.0 compliant. But for my needs, it has caught my eye over the typical platics $200-$350 players. Here's why:

1. Build Quality if very good and superior to most of what's out there.

2. I don't need internal decoding as I'll I could bitstream hi-res audio via HDMI to my Yamaha RX-V3800.

3. I have a Yamaha RX-V3800 and a Yamaha DVD S2700 (DVD/SACD/DVD-Audio player) and the BD S2900 would match my setup pretty nice.

4. I have a Canon HF10 HD camcorder that records AVCHD HD video internally. I can easily take HD Video from the camera, transfer it to a SDHC card and then pop it right into the Yamaha BD S2900's slot for intant viewing. Many other BD players support AVCHD, but you have to first burn the data to a disc to watch it. This is really a convenient way to enjoy your AVCHD HD footage right away without having to burn a disk or connect cablee from the camera to TV.

5. Specs claim it does a great job of color reproduction, something I haven't heard mentioned on the reviews of many other players.

6. The going price on ebay is about $699, so this unit can be bought for almost have of the original announced retail price of $1200.

7. I'll soon be buying an 50" Elite Pro-111FD plasma which supports true 24FPS. The Yamaha BD S2900 supports 1080P/24FPS.

Overall, I'll guess the price will drop after CES and the spring. But for now, I'm still interestedin it. Hope this helps.

Iam not surprised not to many have this player,i've been a member here for a little while and i can't remember even a thread on this blu-ray player.

That alone kind of gives me a red flag

I would definitely not count out Yamaha as a brand to watch. Not too many people own the Blu-ray player due to the $1000 price tag,

As you can see the price i will pay will have no tax.It' not a $2000 Denon,But the Price of the Yamaha is fair only if it's worth it

I just would like to find a couple of owners of this player and hopefuly get some HONEST feedback.

I would like to know also what makes this player tick,I would love to get a hands on review about the PQ and up-converting with DVD's.

If i find that this player is outstanding and is suitable for my needs and the needs of the rest of my eqiupment.I will purchase it and have it as soon as two weeks. But i never buy something Blind.

Also having my Samsung 1400 still working (belive it or not)i don't have a problem waiting for more reviews to come in,It would be nice to purchase my next Blu-ray player and not worry about it 4-5 years down the road.

I think thats what all of us want when purchaseing a new player

There is no arguing that Yamaha makes good stuff but how good are they with firmware updates when this player need one and for that price tag I would get the Panasonic 35 or 55
