That's too bad. I have the HD DVD, but without lossless playback. I'd also love to have Hell Freezes Over on Blu-ray. I have the DTS CD of that album.

We SHOULD start a petition... NOT having this on blu-ray is a tragedy. It's such an awesome video. I've been reading guides on converting HD DVD to blu-ray and it seems like a lot of work... plus, the fact that I don't have an HD DVD drive. I hate to buy one just to do the conversion, but I'm actually considering it!
UPDATE: I can't take the waiting. I ordered it on HD DVD and I ordered an Xbox HD DVD Player. I found a guide to convert to Blu-ray. Fingers crossed! Last edited by jedisinclair; 06-03-2010 at 03:28 PM. |

I really want to buy this concert on Blu-Ray. One of my favorite bands. I'm also considering buying a HD DVD copy and a HD DVD drive to make my own conversion - but that will be a lot of work and a lot of money.
I have no idea how to start a petition of some kind but I will sure like to put my name on the list. |

IF "The Gods" (Glenn Frey & Don Henley) think it's worth it - knowing they can get even More MONEY out of anyone, they'll do it. At this point though, those 2 have more money than they know what to do with, so it'll end up being a Record company push if anything to get it on Bluray. After reading DON FELDERS' Great book, "Heaven & Hell: My Life In The Eagles (1974-2001)", you'll understand "The Gods" reference & those 2 guys' love affair with the almighty dollar and themselves; as if they were the only two guys to write every Eagles hit. Btw, Don Felder wrote what is probably their biggest hit, "Hotel California". Plus, since Felder is on "Hell Freezes Over", it'd entail them working out a deal to pay him some good money; so for that reason, among others perhaps, I doubt it'll happen. Who knows though...

Nice to see this thread back up here. Again, would love to see Hell Freezes Over go out on BD. I would hope that the original "tape" video capture resolves better than 480 lines. It looks VERY good on SD even at 1.33:1.

OK... I got XBox 360 HD DVD Drive which is recognized as a Toshiba HD DVD drive on Vista and Windows 7 (no drivers to install) yay... I ripped it, but now I'm stuck. The guide I found says to load up the main movie .evo file. This has three evo files that make up the concert. I'm not sure where to go from here. Someone said to use Clown BD but that doesn't allow you to keep the menu. HELP... anyone?

Any visual improvements that could be made to Eagles: Hell Freezes Over would probably be subtle at best and mainly rest in overcoming the MPEG-2 encoding and 10Mb/s bandwidth limits of DVD. Considering the concert was videotaped in 1994, I'm not sure if it was shot in a digital format. Analog formats like BetacamSP were still very common in many TV studios. Professional SD digital video tape formats ran at bit rates far higher than what DVD would allow. Even SD MiniDV runs at nearly 30 million bits per second. With a new MPEG-4 AVC or VC1 encode you might see better color/contrast and hardly any compression artifacts. Still, you would be stuck with a pillar-boxed 480p image. The audio side of things could be improved. Blu-ray has enough capacity to deliver 5.1 in the quality levels of the original master tapes. With the concert taking place in 1994, I don't know if the audio was digitally recorded or analog sourced to something like 2" tape, 30" per second, Dolby SR and SMPTE time code. A high quality analog recording can be digitally resampled in 24-bit 96kHz depth. With a digital recording you're stuck with the bits you have. Nevertheless, Blu-ray could deliver a lossless or uncompressed track that beats the existing DVD. As nice as it might be to have Eagles: Hell Freezes Over ported to Blu-ray, I'm not sure if there is anywhere near enough interest to make such an effort profitable. I think we're just going to have to hang on to our DVDs of the show. |

I was able to convert from HD DVD to Blu-ray without menu. I guess there is no way to keep the menu. I emailed Warner Music about releasing Eagles Farewell on Blu-ray and I'm awaiting a reply. Maybe if a few more people contact them, they'll start to consider it???

Thanks for the link, just sent a mail to Warner asking about the Blu-ray. I hope they get it out soon. I really liked Eagles songs and would love to have this concert video on Blu-ray. In the mean time, how is the quality of the DVD (not HD-DVD)? That seems to have a DTS track. If that's also good then I would probably get the DVD itself.

I actually have bought the DVD last Sunday. Yes, it's very very good audio quality. But I listened to the 2 channel LPCM audio more than the DTS and I kind of preferred that over the DTS. Will be listening to the DTS track tomorrow

The Eagles, The Eagles............. have always been my favorite... since the days of "hotel california". I, too, would love to have their concerts in Blu ray format. I have the DVD version of their Farewell tour in Australia and have to say that it's simply the best. The audio is much better than many hd audio recordings... and so is the video quality. The placement of the on stage and music through the speakers was definitely mixed with an eye, or should I say, ear for details and perfection. This was a problem with their "hell freezes over" dvd, which was poorly mixed..... the music/instruments did not match the placement of on stage... and speakers......... quite inaccurate, however, it was a damn good concert.
